The Works Progress Administration allocates 375 190 for a statewide geological survey in Texas counties. Dr E H Sellards says county allotments range from 1161 to 3555 with 92 geologists and nine relief workers per geologist. Work starts soon but may slow due to labor limits and regulatory needs.
Dallas report says United States secret service agent William Morgan was abducted between Texarkana and Paris by counterfeit suspect Leonard Johnson. Morgan escaped by leaping from the automobile at Bokchito Ohio. Johnson is at large and the hunt continues.
Noted writer of poetry and stories about India dies in England. He coined the phrase white man's burden. Body taken to Middlesex Hospital chapel for cremation to be arranged later.
O G Bell, formerly of Del Rio, elected vice president of the Commercial National Bank of Shreveport. He began banking in 1919 after leaving the army Air Corps and has worked with banks in Tombstone Arizona El Paso and at a branch in El Paso. He is the son in law of Del Rio resident Mrs H W Dockery.
Senator Clark of Missouri defended neutrality inquiry and accused Senator Glass of Virginia of using vituperation and abuse against the Senate munitions committee without studying the facts, as he spoke to aid the neutrality investigation amid Democratic reaction.
Attorney General Wilentz and Col Norman Schwarzkopf conferred on Hauptmann reprieve defense for Governor Hoff man. They reportedly agreed to stay out of the controversy. Defense lawyers denied any rift in their ranks.

The Senate opened debate on the bill for full payment of the soldiers bonus in cashable bonds. An affirmative majority appeared ready to back the measure.
The Commerce Department reports a drop in raw wool stocks from 156,689,000 pounds on September 28 to 113,337,000 pounds on December 31, with top totals and nail totals rising in some categories. Details include shifts in apparel class, dealers and manufacturers stocks, carpet class totals, and year end classifications for carding and combing wools, domestic and foreign.
Civil Service exams for the Langtry postmaster position will be held within weeks to fill the vacancy after W H Dodd's death. Applications close January 31 and are available from Acting Postmaster Harold Dodd or the Civil Service Commission in Washington. Applicants must be 21 to 65, reside in the post office area, and be U S citizens.
Delbert Adams five-year-old son of Mr and Mrs Alice Adams died Friday night at 8 45 in his home 417 East Garfield Avenue after a six month illness. He had recently returned from San Antonio where he received treatment. Funeral services are set for 4 o clock Saturday in Doran Chapel with Rev L B Gilbert officiating. Delbert was born October 7 1930 in Del Rio. He is survived by his grandparents Lum Adams Comstock Mrs Bessie Babb and the late Will Babb.
During a Friday re organization meeting the American Legion elected Dr. J. A. McDonald as post commander with C. Leslie Cranfill first vice commander and Frank E. Stiles second vice commander. Others named to the executive board include Rev. L. B. Gilbert and Leo L. Schneers. An installation banquet at Roswell Hotel was planned with McDonald appointing Phil B. Foster as arrangements chairman and urging ex service men to join. Dues are to be paid to Marvin Ellis.
UVALDE January 18 foresees higher prospects as mohair and livestock prices rise and several construction projects start within 30 days. A $100,000 school building, a $100,000 Highway 4 overpass at North Uvalde, a federal fish hatchery, and a Nueces River bridge rebuild on Highway 3 are planned. Railroads rebuild bridges over the Nueces and Uvalde lines, with the Uvalde and Northern to restart Uvalde Camp Wood service after flood damage last summer.
Isaac B. Stone 72, Quemado Lumber Company owner and Del Rio resident, died Friday after three days in a local hospital. Funeral is Tuesday at 10 in the Doran Chapel. Survived by widow Alice Bolt Stone, two sons W C Stone and C C Stone, a daughter Mrs. Frank Randolph, two brothers and four sisters.

At Sandringham King George VI, 70, ill with a bronchial condition, showed further heart attack symptoms. four physicians including a heart specialist attended him. Oxygen was used overnight, measures said to treat his catar rhinal ailment and not a new heart issue.
H B Opp was sentenced to 30 years in prison Friday in Burnet after a jury found him guilty of shooting Wiley R Tomlinson, Menard County commissioner, near Menard on November 7, 1934, amid a range dispute. Plans for appeal announced as L E Trimble, similarly charged, was found guilty in Gillespie County and seeks relief in Austin. Opp’s case was tried before Judge Lamar Thaxton on a change of venue. he offered no statement at sentencing and was sent to Burnet County Jail pending appeal.
An American military attache Captain John Meade escaped with his life after a clash with bandits in Ethiopia when mistaken for an Italian officer. He later earned the tribesmen’s friendship as reports of rebellion in Gojjam surfaced and Italy claimed deep advances northward on the southern front despite Addis Ababa calling the claim fantastic.
Amarillo officials plan to enforce a long standing ordinance banning skating on sidewalks after Christmas when residents complained about numerous roller skates. City Manager H R Smith said he favored restraint but would refer further issues to the police for action.

The United States Weather Bureau warned Del Rio and surrounding areas of freezing temperatures as a cold wave cut the day from 81 to 40 degrees. Ranchers faced a plunge to as low as 14 degrees with winds threatening cattle and sheep through tonight and Sunday.
A warm spell vanished overnight in Texas as a norther replaced it bringing snow and sleet across North Texas. Temperatures fell below freezing with a 40 mile per hour wind. Amarillo recorded 12 degrees, Sherman 26, Dallas Fort Worth 28, El Paso 32. Steady snow hit West Texas and spread to Dallas Gainesville Sherman and other Northeast points.
State Health Department notes influenza as the top illness with 292 cases for the week ending January 11, surpassing pneumonia at 98 and scarlet fever at 90. Measles reached 22, whooping cough 12, meningitis 11, and typhoid 4. Tuberculosis 76 and diphtheria 74 also counted for the period.
