In New York, Mrs Mary Harriet Case is implicated in a bathtub murder just days after the tragedy. Police report the sister porter confessed to the crime. The body was found in an apartment tub with water running. the husband, a hotel executive, returned home to discover her death.
At 9 o clock Saturday morning the hearing for a temporary injunction against Del Rio city officials opened before Judge Brian Montague. Waco Texas January 16 newspaperman reports Chief of Police Woodie Zachry resigns to resume law practice. Captain C C Maxey is appointed to replace him with resignation effective March 15.
W W Slaughter born January 15 1857 in Bell County marked his 80th birthday Friday with a family dinner at his Slaughter Lane home. He once traveled the Chisholm Trail to Dodge City and Wyoming and spent winters in the Indian Territory. He and Margaret Smith married in San Antonio on November 2 1892 and later ran a dairy on the old Gildea farm before settling on their current property.
The Senate banking committee approved a bill to extend the 2 billion dollar stabilization fund and the President’s devaluation authority to June 30, 1939. Morgenthau and Daniel Bell testified in executive session as the measure moved toward a floor vote Monday. The current law expires January 30.
