William E. Davenport of San Angelo, once sentenced to two years for theft, received a full pardon from Governor Miriam A. Ferguson in Austin. The case involved a client fee and was upheld by the Court of Criminal Appeals after a rehearing, while a March disbarment trial found for Davenport. He remains free on bond and now assists in the murder case of H. B. Opp at Menard.
An inquest near Brushy Canyon seven miles from Pandale ruled Col Slick Everett died of natural causes at age 35. His body was found at the cave mouth after a search party located thirteen slain javeline hogs nearby. Funeral services were held in Ozona with Del Rio relatives attending. Everett’s survivors include three sisters and four brothers.
District Judge Lamar Thaxton overruled a change of venue motion in the H. B. Opp murder case. One hundred thirty summoned jurors were ordered to report. Opp is accused of fatally shooting Wiley Tomlinson near Fort McKavett. L. E. Trimble faces separate murder charges.
In Paintsville Kentucky Dennie Pigg of the Davenport section uses a circle of empty nail kegs around his store. He sits on one keg to lure loafers and customers who then offer a nickel after backer. He rises to wait on them and a patron sits on another keg as Dennie cycles seating.

President Roosevelt urged the Senate to ratify American adherence to the World Court in a special message. He called for ratification in a form that would not defeat or delay the objective. Senatorial circles read this as signaling opposition to new reservations.
The League of Nations abruptly cancelled a meeting in Geneva on January 16 where it was to proclaim the annexation of the Saar to Germany. Disagreements with Berlin over transfer date were cited as the reason.
In Webb County at Colefield the 25th flowing oil well for the Bruni townsite area was completed. A January 5 completion date is noted and a fourth gas well is promised.
Funeral services for Miss Elizabeth Blanche Garrett 42 were held Wednesday at 4 45 p m at Trotbie Doran Funeral Home with Rev L C Beasley officiating. Interment was in Westlawn Cemetery. She died Sunday at 643 p m in a local sanitarium after illness since Tuesday. She edited a shopping column and later the business and sports section for The Del Rio Evening News. She had worked previously for The San Antonio Express Cuero Record and the Los Angeles Evening Herald. She resided in the Rio Grande Valley before coming to Del Rio in 1933 to recuperate from a serious illness. She helped organize the local Business and Professional Women's Club. Survivors include her mother Mrs J W Garrett five sisters and three brothers. Pallbearers listed and mother and sister Mrs Ralph Bower attended from Boerne and Yuma Ariz. The sister from Boerne came Saturday to be with her.
In Britton Oklahoma Mrs Isa Dora Gott 64 a helpless invalid died Monday from blood poisoning after a sustained attack by ants last August. Doctors called the insect assault while she was alone a contributory cause of death as the helpless woman screamed for help for three hours before aid arrived.
Brackettville, Jan 16. W H Goleman, local tailor, was named farm census enumerator for Kinney County. The appointment came from W H Chambers, census supervisor of Brownwood.
In Oklawaka Florida on January 16 a six hour gun battle ends with the death of Fred Barker his mother Ma Barker and Alvin Karpis associate believed involved in the kidnapping of Edward Bremer a wealthy St Paul banker. DOJ agents suffer no casualties in the confrontation.
Four gunmen ambushed the Lenore State Bank in Lenore today killing Sheriff Glenn Axline and cashier Charles Lundy and wounding Deputy Charles Feipp and Deputy Brown. Three culprits were captured near Verna Kl. the fourth died by suicide after a running gun battle through several counties.
Amarillo report shows Panhandle field with production valuation over 53 million dollars in 1924. payroll totals 14.9 million for 12 600 workers, oil recovery 323 404 513 barrels, oil value 17 230 000 dollars at 85 cents per barrel, and gas sold daily to Texas and other markets.
Governor Allred proposes immediate creation of a state planning board to coordinate recovery efforts and asks the Legislature to authorize 3.5 million dollars in state relief bonds. He calls for consideration of old age pensions, repeal of Prohibition, oil and utility regulation, taxation, crime control, and labor safeguards. He notes federal social security moves and possible state matching pensions.
All officers and directors of the DeRio Bank and Trust Company were re elected at the annual election of directors and officers Tuesday afternoon. Officers named are T L Drnsdale president C B Freeman vice president and Allie Daniels cashier. Directors include T L Drisdale C B Freeman Allie Daniels R L Miers and L G DuBus.
Four men robbed The Citizens State Bank in Buffalo Leon County Texas of about $3,000 today. Two entered the bank while two waited outside in a Louisiana licensed automobile. One robber herded officers three citizens and two bank examiners to the back room while another gathered cash and the group fled east shortly after.
