Italy reports Southern armies repulsed an Ethiopian advance on the Dolo front and pursued the enemy. Ethiopia cites a January 2 surprise clash killing 65 Italians and six Ethiopians. Sweden protests Italian bombings at Dessye injuring a Swedish national, and French circles note a possible League council action on January 20.
Jas. C. Netts was re elected secretary manager for 1936 at the first meeting of the new Board of Directors. Sam H. Walk was selected president with R. H. Hurd first vice president and Paul Pong second vice president. Mary Johnson remains office secretary as six new directors join a 14 re elected.
Lupe Arreola a 23 year old Mexican of Carlsbad New Mexico was found guilty by a district court jury on a second forgery charge and sentenced to two years in the penitentiary. He had already been tried on the first charge and will serve two consecutive sentences. He allegedly forged checks for 20 dollars and 25 dollars using false signatures, one drawn on Mrs C C Belcher and the other bearing the name Roger Gillis. The incidents occurred in Val Verde County after his arrival two and a half months earlier.
Directors of the Del Rio Bank and Trust Company were re elected at a stockholders meeting Tuesday afternoon. Officers will be chosen later due to absences, with T L Drnsdale R L Miers L G DuBus W A Daniels and C B Freeman named as potential directors.
The 1936 Texas highway program centers on reducing traffic deaths. Gibb Gilchrist, chief engineer, outlined the department’s structure, road types, and beautification efforts, including 1,000 highway parks planned by July and 2,000,000 trees saved on roadsides. Remnants of 17 victims of America's most disastrous air crash were recovered from a swamp near Goodwin Arkansas. The Southerner, a luxurious American Airlines transcontinental liner on the Memphis to Little Rock route, crashed with no survivors. Officials say cause may never be known.
In Westchester Pennsylvania on January 15 a mentally distressed Mrs. Joseph Oberle killed her three sleeping children with a pinch bar and attempted suicide. The tragic act ends a family crisis as authorities investigate motive and safety.
Mrs Hauptmann told her husband that his habeas corpus plea was denied and that a reprieve remained his best hope of avoiding execution. The defense planned to seek a reprieve from Governor Hoffman as next step.

The goal is 1200 dollars and more than half was raised before the public campaign started. district and division leaders outlined plans and a district committee meeting was scheduled for the afternoon.
L M Murphy of Boston, a wool man familiar to local randymen, has been named vice president of Fise Mann Incorporated in Boston. The firm will operate a general wool commission business. Murphy was formerly a junior member of Elsemann Brothers.
The Val Verde County Commissioners Court unanimously voted to continue fee-based reimbursements for county and precinct officials in 1936. Legislature's Article 3912 sets salary ranges. officials may keep fees above deputy costs up to a maximum. County judge Clarence Herreford noted retainment aims to keep incentives for diligence.
The Del Rio region shows cloudy conditions tonight and Thursday with a warmer night. Yesterday’s high reached 77 while the low cooled to 44 and this morning’s minimum was 45 degrees.
