Major James R. Doolittle established a new transcontinental transport airplane record by landing at Floyd Bennett Field New York after 11 hours 59 minutes from Los Angeles. The prior record of 12 hours 3 minutes 50 seconds was set by Eddie Rickenbacker on November 8 1934.
Miss Elizabeth Blanch Garrett 42 will have funeral services Wednesday at 4 45 p m at Devan Funeral Home with Rev L C Beasley officiating. She died of toxemia Sunday at 6 43 p m in a local sanitarium. Survivors include her mother Mrs J W Garrett five sisters and three brothers. The mother arrives Wednesday from Yuma Arizona to be with the family.
Col Everett, about 35, of Pandale country, was found dead near a cave mouth in Brushy Canyon about 10 a m Tuesday after relatives failed to find him Monday night. A .22 rifle and several dead javelin hogs were nearby. Relatives cited two possible causes: a ricocheted bullet or heart disease. Survivors include three sisters and four brothers.
In Saarbruecken the Nazi sweep of the Saar plebiscite with 90 percent of votes leads to immediate Nazi control of the local police. Authorities round up 120 men and jail 30 anti Nazi Blue Coats militants. Sixteen Communists were found among earlier arrests as the League of Nations considers a return of the Saar to Germany.

James V. Allred is named the new governor of Texas at a noon ceremony in Austin. The 36 year old official began his political path with an appointment as Curt Popurver, moving through Wichita Falls district attorney to four years as Texas attorney general.
Milt Good, convicted with partner Tom Ross of slaying two cattle inspectors in Seminole Texas in 1923, will leave the Texas penitentiary on January 20 1935 after an 11 year fight by his wife Mrs Good. Governor Ferguson granted a full pardon effective January 20 1935 after prior refusals and furloughs. Good was noted for rodeo wins while in prison and plans to join his wife in Fort Worth.

In Dallas on January 15, relatives of Mrs. Pearl Hall file a $175,000 damages suit claiming defamation from a pardon proclamation by Governor Miriam A Ferguson. The suit targets the governor and her husband James E Ferguson, arguing the proclamation about Mrs Mary Boone altered the deceased woman’s character amid the November 1933 killing.
Federal Judge Medina Machada ruled in Piedras Negras that XER radio station owners are not liable for heavy fines sought by the Mexican treasury and Federal health department. The ruling states fines are not payable by property owners and cannot be imposed or confiscated. Louis M. Orozco admitted no evidence of infractions. Augustina Barrera represented the owners.
Del Rio students in the University of Texas posted an average 33.1 credits, well above the state composite average of 28.6. Comparisons show San Angelo 26.7, Uvalde 30.5, Sweetwater 30.3, Hondo 12, with larger towns San Antonio 25.1, Houston 28.9, Fort Worth 30.4, Dallas 30.4.
About 10 000 unemployed agricultural students will be placed with the United States soil erosion service after Texas Technological College advised a list of about 20 interested Tech students. The project aims to provide work and training for national soil conservation, six to eight months, with wages at the PWA rate of 40 or 50 cents an hour and no pay for study.
Two sisters and a brother of Isadore Fisch, linked to the Lindbergh ransom case, arrived on the Ile De France to testify in the Hauptmann trial. The proceedings focus on the connection between Fisch and the ransom money alleged to be in Hauptmann's possession.
