The 1931 annual Chamber of Commerce banquet in Roswell will feature stunts on Del Rio territory events, with limited speeches. Directors for 1932 will be elected, ballots mailed to members and to be canvassed that Monday night. Toastmaster B. J. McDowell. Reservations 50 cents per plate.
Albert Stafrin also known as A J Stratton faces extradition to Seward Nebraska on embezzlement charges after a Del Rio swindle case involving a $40 check drawn on Greeley Bank. He was captured in Marfa and held by Val Verde County officials who dismissed local charges.
Joe Hershon, 26, convicted slayer of a policeman, was executed at the county jail gallows in Kansas City. He protested his innocence as he walked to the execution with a rabbi he had played cards with all night.

Walter Smith, youngest son of former Governor Al Smith, was arrested in New York on a homicide charge after his car struck and killed 55 year old pedestrian Harry Wallace at a street intersection. Wallace died at the hospital.
L. Schwartz and Co of Uvalde sold 100000 pounds of Fallwool to Studley and Emory of Boston. The private message to The Del Rio Evening News notes the accumulation brought a price from 8 to 9 cents per pound.

Prospective buyers from other states will be invited for site visits to see the headworks 17 miles from Del Rio.
In Trenton Tennessee on January fifteenth the death toll from the tornado climbed to nine with three more fatalities anticipated. The victims include W. P. Rice, his wife, their three daughters, two sons, a granddaughter and a neighbor’s child, as the storm demolished the Rice home.
Chester H. Gray of the American Farm Bureau Federation urged the House Ways and Means Committee to enact a tax program yielding 1.5 billion dollars in additional federal revenue. The plan would raise income taxes beyond the administration proposal and impose a special levy on income from American investments abroad.
HONDO, Jan. 15 State vs J W Graham tried in District Court this week ended with a guilty verdict and a two year penitentiary sentence. Four cases tried at Boerne resulted in convictions and a rehearing motion is pending before the Court of Appeals.
The Ven B S McKenzie Archdeacon of the Diocese of West Texas is confined to his San Antonio home with influenza. The Rev Mr Glassbrook of New York will be the principal speaker at the parish annual congregational meeting at St James Episcopal Church on Monday night.

Officers from the sheriff's department, Ranger camp, and the game warden searched near the Devil's River highway for two men believed to have killed a fawn. Witnesses heard two shots as a car sped away. one fawn was found, the other missing. The search continued.
Gladys Golden, 27, was near death from burns when a trick cigarette exploded in bed in Dallas. She said a friend gave her the cigarette. The report mentions a thermos bottle used by Tibetans over 400 years ago.
Detectives pursued a murder theory after the fatal shooting of Mrs. Veta Daniels at a Louisville rooming house. She died at City Hospital at 10:20 p.m. Coroner Roy Carter ruled death by own action, though a man was seen leaving the room shortly before the body was found by the proprietor Mrs. Max Howse.
San Angelo officials broaden the Fat Stock Show by adding a Hereford show and sale Feb 29 to Mar 2 at the fairgrounds. Premiums of 15 10 and 5 go to vocational agriculture student judging teams, with total premiums of 3285. Entries include 924 calves 635 lambs 151 pigs 24 foats and 39 breeding sheep from 20 West Texas counties.
A US Army bombing plane crashed near Manila on January 15 killing Lieutenant Raymond Zettel of West Branch, Mici, and Lieutenant Elmer L. McGuire of Cincinnati. Three enlisted men were injured, with two officers trapped and suffocated by smoke as the craft burned upon impact.

Funeral services for Finous Doran 22 were held at First Presbyterian Church with Rev B D Kennedy officiating. Interment followed in Westlawn Cemetery. Doran died after a three month illness at his parents home on East Broadway. He was born in San Angelo Texas June 1 1900 and moved to Uvalde Del Rio later living in Del Rio the past year. He graduated Del Rio High School class of 1926 and attended Schreiner Institute 1926 27. He had worked at Rio National Bank as a clerk. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs F H Doran and a brother Damon and twin Hillary Ugran and sister Ruth Doran. Del Rio pallbearers were Paul Ewing Harlingen Philemon Foster Ralph Corley Shed Hamilton Al Leinweber Rogers Johnson Hoby Molyneux Horace Crowley.
Examining trial for Juana Cas tello on a charge of assault with intent to murder will be held before Justice of the Peace Charles Miller Saturday morning. The case stems from the cutting of Francisco Escarana alias Pancho Villa in a quarrel over pups earlier this week. A special 36 man venire will report at 9 Velock for jury service in the Santiago Gonzales case in 63rd district court before Judge Joseph Jones.
A skeleton unearthed in a sand pit at the Manual Nunes farm in Mattapoisett is believed to be the grave of an Algonquin Indian Chief from Colonial days. Dr Irving N Tilden a Mattapoisett Library trustee began assembling the remains for potential exhibition.
