TRENTON January 13. Efforts to save Hauptmann were cloaked in secrecy today. Nugent Dodds and Neil Burkinshaw, lawyers specializing in United States Supreme Court procedure, left here after a brief stay. There was no indication of any legal move by the defense. Bernard Finnigan, Chicago lawyer, flew here to tell governor a story of three men who he said possessed 22 000 of the ransom money. He said he got the information from a Chicago jail prisoner who said his conscience was torturing him.
Chickasha officers sought a band of gypsies in a con game linked to the loss of 5000 dollars by Mrs. George Caldwell widow of a city laundry man. The incident is under investigation and authorities pursue the suspects.
Arthur Gooch of Paris Texas faces potential execution under the Lindbergh kidnapping law as the Supreme Court weighs his case. Arguments in Washington are set for January 31 with Gooch appealing his conviction for abducting a police officer during a failed arrest.

Funeral services for Mrs Beulah E Adams wife of the late William Lee Adams of Comstock were conducted Monday morning at 11 o clock in Comstock under the direction of Doran Funeral Home Rev G Robert Forrester of Del Rio officiated She died early Monday morning in Del Rio after a long illness Her husband died May 6 1933 He was a son of the late Dr J L Adams of Comstock who died on April 30 1934 A foster son Billy Adams 5 survives
A San Felipe resident drew a $25 fine for petty theft in County Court Monday morning. Another man was jailed on charges of marijuana possession and robbery. His bond was set at $800 but unposted Monday afternoon.
Vice Commander Phil Garoni announces an American Legion meeting in the Chamber of Commerce at 7 30 tonight to elect officers and discuss other important matters urging all members to attend.
Rudyard Kipling remained in a very grave condition eight hours after an emergency gastric operation in London. In New York Samuel L. Rothafel known as Roxy and a major film producer died of a heart attack in his hotel room. In Astoria Oregon thirty four crewmen of the freighter Iowa were lost as the ship broke up in a 76 mile per hour hurricane and six bodies washed ashore.
Six of Jap Lowes lambs were killed Sunday night in a Lowe Heights feed lot by dogs. He owned 120 head of 11 to month old lambs bought from Arch Jenkins of Kinney County. Six were killed outright and 20 were wounded.
The annual Chamber of Commerce banquet requires reservations by noon Tuesday. The event, announced Monday, is Tuesday evening at 7 30 in the Roswell Hotel with toastmaster Roger H Thurmond and speaker Gibb Gilchrist, chief engineer of the State Highway Department. Directors of the Chamber will be elected at the banquet.
The County Commissioners Court studied the pay method, weighing salary scale versus fee basis for county, precinct and district officials. Officials cannot drop below last year's pay or exceed 3 000 under the new law, with votes expected today.
Claud Roberts a 29 year old truck line operator died after a crash east of Dryden when his rig overturned striking a culvert guard rail. Emil Roberts, asleep in the cab, survived. Services held at Doran Funeral Home with burial in Westlawn Cemetery. Roberts born July 3 1906 Edwards County. Survived by widow Dorothy Ogle Roberts three children his parents and four brothers and three sisters.
Edward Marvin Davis age 24 of Quemado died from a cerebral hemorrhage after hospital treatment. Last rites were held Monday at 4 PM at Doran Funeral Chapel with Rev. L B Gilbert officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery. he is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. W S Davis and brothers Fred and Pete. Pallbearers were A Batot H H Bilbo Bryan Kelley Geo E Love W G Muter and George Sandifer.
Austin January 13 Allred has not decided whether to call a special session to raise more money for old age pensions He wants to see if the state has funds to begin pension payments without a special session He noted the large task of creating a pensions administration and that the law takes effect in February.
Sam H. Walk announces ballots for Chamber of Commerce directors in 1936 must be returned to the Chamber office by 2 30 tomorrow. The election introduces hold-over directors with nine chosen to serve two year terms under the new by laws.
Miss Ann Cooper Hewitt, a 21 year old heiress, battles her mother Mrs Maryon Cooper Hewitt in San Francisco. Her counsel seek evidence to prove she was sterilized so her fortune would revert to her mother if she died without issue. The daughter charges the surgery was performed because she was moronic.
Six Del Rio Evening News carrier boys contracted mumps in the past three weeks. Replacements operated on routes include Donald Reis Estas Miller John Walter Barnett James Miller Maurice Jennings and Ralph Kilborn. Three carriers Derral Phinney Robert Cook and Earl Scudday have not yet had mumps. Arthur Preston was ill with glandular disturbance not mumps during a Caldwell Kansas holiday visit before returning to Del Rio.
In Washington on January 13 the Senate investigation heard that several American munitions makers would fill British contracts despite US needs. A cablegram from the Morgan company coordinating Allied purchases indicated firms would honor British orders regardless of United States requirements.
Ogden Utah January 13 A stocky white faced Hereford bred owned and shown by FE S Moore Sr of Sheridan Wyoming is named the grand champion fat steer of the 17th annual Ogden Livestock Show.

Bonds would be issued in small denominations to deter immediate cashing and ease Treasury strain amid Vinson bill scrutiny. Major Knowlton Durham of the New York VFW condemns the plan as larceny.
Val Verde County ex servicemen stand to receive about 220 546 dollars if the veterans bonus is paid in cash. The House of Representatives approved a bill to make adjusted service certificates payable immediately with a 3 percent interest incentive through 1945 for those who delay cashing. The measure also cancels any unpaid interest on loans tied to the certificates.
