Galindo 32 year old Del Rio sheep shearer faces murder trial in District Court Del Rio in a regular session with a special venue of 72 for the case Estella Vasquez 14 died from injuries after an auto crash on October 1 1934. He was indicted October 5 on murder driving while intoxicated and failure to stop and render aid.
The New York Post reports a man resembling Bruno Hauptmann may testify as a surprise defense witness in the Lindbergh baby kidnapping trial. The candidate is Robert Scanlon of Menlo Park New Jersey a real estate man who allegedly was in the woods near the Lindbergh home and driving nearby at the time of the abduction.
Del Rio records show 154 home loans completed before HOLC funds ran out, totaling 337 942.51 with 26 023.80 in delinquent taxes. Taxes paid benefited city 13 764.22 county/state 5 117.15 and school district 7 142.43. Loans refinance at 5 percent over 30 years. Grady Lowrey forecasts more loans after legal review.
An out-of-town man paid a $2 fine in City Court for overnight street parking. He had ignored a ticket left on his car and admitted violating the over parking ordinance again. Chief Amos Humphrey said duplicate tickets were turned in at city hall and owners identified. arrests will follow for those failing to appear.
Virginia Wurz fourteen year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J F Wurz will be buried after funeral services at Sacred Heart Church. The Del Rio junior high pupil died Friday of pneumonia after a four day illness at her Garden Parks home. Survivors include her parents eight brothers and three sisters all named residents of Del Rio with relatives in Grand Falls and California.
A church state clash in Tacubaya Mexico City left eight injured with a man shot three times in critical condition after tensions rose from the arrest of a Catholic priest for holding services without a permit. Police reported the disturbance began last night and spread across the suburb.
In Ozona on January 12 a tourist asked for a posum sandwich. A triple deck of lamb was prepared and served with a 60 cent ticket. The proprietor noted the posums come from Louisiana this season and are expensive. The tourist paid and remarked he got what he asked for.
Jewish residents of the Saar territory were advised by Nazis to go to Germany tonight and return after the plebiscite. They were told to carry passports showing abstention from voting to avoid reprisals if Saar returns to Germany after the vote.
Six professors from West Texas State Teachers College have driven 5115 miles in two months to teach extension classes in Panhandle towns. Drs. Jarrett Meyer Cook Savage Duflot Condron teach at Clarendon Amarillo Dalhart Childress Pampa Wheeler Hereford to 375 students as part of a State Education Department effort to familiarize Texas teachers with the public school curriculum history.

Amelia Earhart Putnam flying from Honolulu to Oakland reports sighting Santa Cruz 75 miles south as she nears Oakland. Radio says her position about 500 miles off coast at 8 am Pacific. if on schedule she lands around 11:18 am Pacific time with her voice saying all OK.
The Department of Commerce radio station at Burbank reported at 7:40 a.m. Pacific time that Amelia Earhart flying from Honolulu toward Oakland said all is well. Her exact position was not provided.
Irene Price Cherokee County home demonstration agent reports 18 women clubs and 6 girls clubs with 443 members completed a strong year. They logged 8 310 containers of fruit and juices, and 15 620 containers of fruit and vegetables worth 3 692 90. Five women standardized tomato juice for market and two thirds of women and four fifths of girls completed home orchard requirements.
Mrs. Nellie Buchanan, tax collector, states moratorium does not excuse 1934 taxes due January 31. Delinquent penalties apply after that date. 10 percent penalty and 6 percent interest. Total 1934 taxes collected to date are $8,285.55. 1933 taxes through Jan 10 amount to $12,252.19 with December 1933 at $9,523.03.
