Del Rio Independent School District will begin mid term exams Tuesday under Supt Roy M Andrews guidance. High and junior schools run two hour periods from 8 to 10 am and 1:30 to 3:30 pm with a second 8 to 10 am block and noon end. Elementary schools follow a different schedule starting Tuesday morning and report cards go out Friday at 2 pm after exams.
CROCKETT, Jan. 11. A second suspect, identity concealed, was arrested in Houston on robbery charges for the Farmers Guaranty State Bank at Kennard Tuesday. Another suspect from Livingston remains jailed in Crockett awaiting District Attorney Pickett to file charges.
Del Rio and vicinity face cloudy unsettled conditions tonight and Saturday. Yesterday’s high reached 82 degrees with a low of 46, and this morning’s low dipped to 45 degrees.

Malcolm M. Meek of Corpus Christi, a former Oklahoma banker, was named president of Citizens' National Bank in Abilene by the 1935 directors during their annual meeting. George L. Paxton Sr. was reappointed chairman of the board, Hugh P. Simmons named cashier, with resignations of J. O. Shelton and Paxton Jr. accepted as they pursue other plans.
Mr. Meek, who served as receiver for the closed First National Bank in Del Rio, has recently resigned from the position.
Men seeking highway project work west of the Pecos River must renew NRHA registrations in Del Rio. Renewals may be sent by post card or letter. in-person visit unnecessary if the applicant lives outside Del Rio.
H A Malone, 66 year old Spanish American War veteran, was released on his own recognizance after telling the Dallas County grand jury about the shooting death of his son Clarence Malone, 33, at Grand Prairie. Juanita Malone, 16, sister of the dead man, was reported in fair condition at a hospital after alleged beating and kicking prior to the shooting.
The board urged President Roosevelt to spend 675 million dollars to buy up 5 million acres a year over 15 years, withdrawing 460000 farms from production to conserve resources. A separate social security program outline calls for unemployment insurance old age pensions and public health aid with federal grants to states meeting care laws.
The handwriting expert Albert St Osborn identified Bruno Richard Hauptmann's writing on all Lindbergh baby ransom notes. He testified that the notes signed Richard Hauptmann were likely by the same writer, linking Hauptmann to the crime. The defense questioned testimony on ransom gold notes and related events during the investigation.
Funeral services for Mrs. Clara Altha Pauli 34 wife of Herman Pauli were held in Sanderson. She died Thursday in Del Rio at a sanitarium of peritonitis. Her body was sent to Sanderson by west bound train. She was born in Montell August 6 1900. Her parents were Mr. and Mrs L W Lace. She came to Del Rio for treatment with her daughter Alma Merck her son and her husband.
In Dalhart on January 11 Jack C. Collins of Sunray described expansion of the Moore County oil field and new facilities for Sunray. The Rock Island station at Phillips seven miles west has moved to Sunray to handle rising business, with an express office expected soon. Sunray is served by Rock Island and Santa Fe.
Caliche for the base of the new Highway No 3 route is laid at 500 to 600 cubic yards daily. The second caliche course is underway while the first course across 2.5 miles is complete and the third will follow. About 60 workers, including engineers, are on site. The reroute bypasses the old highway near the east underpass, uses two new bridges over San Felipe Creek, and continues to Devil's River Road. Brown and Root Inc. holds the contract for 74 634 dollars. Open date depends on weather.
Jerome Wilson, a 30 year old Black man convicted of killing Delos C. Wood, chief deputy sheriff of Washington Parish, was seized by a mob in Franklinton Louisiana and shot to death in his jail cell. The mob entered the sheriff's office about 3 p.m. and took the cell keys, placing his body on the road three miles north of town.

Kerrville Jan 1 1930 L A Schreiner reports a London firm offered 13 cents a pound for Texas mohair instead of 15. Texas goat men urge the Department of Agriculture to obtain from eastern mills the mohair on hand at set times. No recent trades reported. Over 11 million pounds of mohair exist in Texas from the last two years’ clips.
Del Rio National Farm Loan Association announces an annual report showing ranchers in Val Verde and surrounding counties hold 3.307 million dollars in loans with the Federal Land Bank and 600.9 thousand with the Commissioner. Delinquent state and county taxes totaling about 20 thousand dollars were paid last year. Board reelects W. F. Easterling as president J. B. Moore as vice president and W. P. Wallace Jr. as secretary treasurer with five directors reelected.
Virginia Wurz fourteen daughter of Mr and Mrs J F Wurz died at six a m Friday of pneumonia at her Garden Parks home after a four day illness. Funeral plans await word from her sister Katherine in California. Survived by parents seven brothers and three sisters in Del Rio and Grand Falls Texas.
