New York January 8 The woolen industry emerging from postwar strain aims to solidify recent gains through expanded promotion. After wartime overcapacity and thin margins, 1935 raw wool use rose sharply to 304 million pounds, with 1936 demand brisk though margins squeezed by higher wool prices amid renewed global demand and government buys.

SANDERSON, Jan 8. F B Cuarter, 80, pioneer hotel man, died here yesterday. He is survived by his widow. Interment took place here Thursday evening.
V A Brown dies in San Antonio Tuesday. He was a longtime rancher and leader in the Ranch Experiment Station drive between Sonora and Mills City. Born February 1861 in Hays County he owned about 30 000 acres in this county and 18 000 in Terrell County. Funeral services planned Friday in Rocksprings with survivors including widow Della E Brown two sons Joel and W B Brown three daughters and several siblings.
Chief Frank J. Schmidt presents 1936 fire records for Del Rio showing 83 miles traveled to answer 72 alarms. Insurance paid 3 357 80 with buildings insured for 77 382 23 and contents for 23 000. Hose used totaled 12 910 feet and chemicals 26 gallons.
During the holidays in Carta Valley country two bucks with horns locked were found by Marvin Hutto and Roger Hutto. One buck had 11 points and the other 9 points, both dead, entangled souls unable to free their horns.
AP reports a severe cold wave brings subzero temps in Texas towns including Pampa and Borger while Amargosa and El Paso see life threatening conditions. Three deaths occurred from the cold and a crash in an automobile truck collision added to the fatalities. Wind and ice cause injuries and structural damage as the cold front moves east with rain and snow in various states.
The cold wave arrives Friday morning, lowering the Del Rue temperature from 34 to 33 degrees by midafternoon. Weather observer H L Molyneux warns it may drop to 18 degrees tonight with a low 18 to 25 degree range. Forecast calls for part cloudy skies on Saturday.
The Texas Prison Board announced a selective guard plan to reform first offenders in the segregation program. Board chair Pad dock said efforts aim to keep normal convicts from mixing with hardened criminals and to treat young men with hope of reformation. A prison service commission would screen applicants according to fixed standards.
A new corporation formed in San Angelo with J W Bartlett as president plans a solar salt evaporation plant on the White and Baker rate Kr Pepes County Brine will be pumped from a near Iraan well and sold to livestock raisers. The plant expects to begin operation late this month with a two inch line feeding fuel to three boilers supplying steam for the evaporator. Several solar salt evaporator plants already operate in the county.
