A district court grand jury returned sixteen indictments on Wednesday morning, including fourteen felonies and two misdemeanors. Among felonies were eight for forgeries and charges of intoxicated driving, assault with a prohibited weapon, child abandonment, marijuana possession, removing mortgaged property from the county, and assault with intent to murder. Misdemeanors covered selling intoxicating liquor under the new law and aggravated assault. The jury, impaneled Tuesday, was led by foreman R. M. Crosby with members Felipe Alderete and others named.
The Val Verde County district committee of Concho Valley council met Tuesday to finalize plans for a financial drive in Del Rio. M. S. Martin was named general, F. H. Doran and Sam H. Customs records show 1935 collections at the Del Rio port totaling 164,964.90 dollars, a gain of 163,958.61 over 1934. Fees largely came from cattle mules and horses duties, with 11,310 cattle crossing from Mexico, 204 mules, and 19 horses. Passengers and autos also increased from the prior year.
L. E. Trimble filed an appeal Tuesday with the Court of Criminal Appeals challenging his murder conviction for the W. R. Tomlinson case in Menard County. Tomlinson was killed on November 7, 1934, and Trimble was convicted in Gillespie County. H. B. Opp faced trial Monday in Burnet before Judge Lamar Thaxton on related charges.

F. H. Woolls Jr. 32 nephew of Harvey E. Guinn was shot to death Tuesday night at about 7 on the Guinn ranch near Comstock by a Mexican ranch hand. The assailant forced Windrow to drive the car to the highway and back, then fled toward Mexico. Del Rio authorities and the grand jury investigated as the body was prepared for burial in Pearsall.
