The Court of Criminal Appeals in Austin reversed and remanded the murder case of L E Trimble, a special ranger, linked to W R Tomlinson’s death. Trimble had faced five years, while co-defendant B Opp received 30 years. both cases were overturned for trial errors including inadmissible testimony and improper jury instructions.
Major J Kennedy and Lieut E E McKesson of Brooks Field were injured today but not seriously when their plane crashed and burned near Randolph Field. Congressional leaders outlined plans to push through bills extending Treasury monetary and stabilization powers, including authority to issue Federal Reserve notes against government securities up to 100 percent.

In Albuquerque on January 7 11 year old Frank Devot climbed an apple tree tied a rope to a limb and looped a noose around his neck. He shouted this is how cowboys hang cattle thieves then jumped his feet barely touched the ground. Doctors revived him after half an hour with an inhalator noting the neck was a little stretched but none the worse.
Hearing on a temporary injunction to bar city officials from spending city funds was postponed by Judge Brian Montague to Saturday January 10. The order allows tax and water rent collection and wages for city employees.
Conciliators report narrowing breaches in auto and maritime labor disputes. In Detroit Governor Murphy termed prospects good for direct talks to avert a general GM walkout. He met with leaders of about 50,000 striking workers. Four peace conferences between ship operators and unions on the Pacific Coast began in San Francisco.
