Chicago detectives say they broke up a kidnapping ring after Gus Sanger confessed to loving Mrs Georgia Gecht wife of Dr Max Gecht. Sanger arranged a date with her after ransom was paid. He implicated six men: Ward Swalwell Al bert Russell Edward Finen William Thomas and Oscar Martin.
The largest unemployment protest in U S history moved through Washington as Rev Father James R Cox led marchers to the White House. President Hoover met with leaders and officials while petitions for federal aid were presented to the Senate and House amid debate on a two billion dollar emergency credit plan.
Mexico will produce enough crops to feed its people this year for the first time in years with some surplus for export possible. In The Dalles Oregon C R Callaway reported his electric clock ran backward with minutes ticking in reverse. The device had been keeping perfect time prior to the strange malfunction and Callaway could not explain the mystery.
Five Dallas firefighters were injured when a wall fell during a blaze. They backed away with a hose rather than drop to safety as spectators could have been endangered.
In Newville Pennsylvania on January 7 two women pilots Ruth Stewart of St Louis and Debbie Stanford of Toronto were found dead in a wrecked autogiro on a fogbound mountain. They were missing since Tuesday while en route from St Louis to New York to continue to South America.

Val Verde County tax records show delinquent taxpayers may pay current and past due taxes without penalty or interest until January 31. County Tax Collector Lyle Almond says many residents are unaware of the grace period and have begun paying, boosting collections as January progresses.

Homer Henry Barre, 39, a Philadelphia artist and writer, was held in San Antonio for questioning in the Mary Baker murder near Washington in April 1930. Barre was arrested as a vagrant. papers describing the killing were found on him. He was released later when officials said he was not wanted in the case, which drew national attention after Baker, a Navy Department stenographer, was found choked and shot in a culvert.
Justice Randolph Pierson ruled Bonham death by drowning after an inquest. Bonham, Harr County deputy tax collector, disappeared December 11 with L. C McElrath, whose body was found in the Houston ship channel. Murder charges may follow Frank Greer in connection with McElrath’s death.
Tourists seeking entry to Mexico by air may obtain entrance permits from Mexican consuls at border ports. The change, approved by the government, lets consuls issue permits and notify Mexico City, replacing the former requirement to obtain permits directly from the national government. The move aims to boost air tourist traffic into Mexico.
MUKDEN Jan 7 Japanese troops dispersed 500 bandit irregulars who had occupied the walled city of Tiehling. Casualties were not learned. Robert Coleman of Trinidad chased his eloping daughter and James Fraser 125 miles by automobile to stop their marriage but arrived too late.
The first burglary of the week in Del Rio occurred Wednesday night at the Cheorge Newton home on East Garfield. A prowler entered while the family was away, ransacked drawers and closets, and seized a quilt and a blanket. Sheriff Bud Whistler canvassed the surrounding area for clues.
Washington January 7 The administration opposes the Democratic tariff revision bill. Under secretary of the Treasury Ogden L Mills presented the administration’s position to the House Ways and Means Committee.
The 3rd District Court grand jury returned seven true bills to District Judge Joseph Jones on adjournment. Indictments include burglary four counts, forgery five counts, theft, assault with intent to murder, driving while intoxicated, and desertion. Several defendants face multiple charges and trials are set for Monday.
