Miss Marine Westbrook, twin sister of Maxine Westbrook who died from injuries after a truck struck them on a highway near Quemado, attended Friday’s funeral in Eagle Pass, arriving by stretcher. Chris Parker, injured in the same incident, was reported slightly worse but alive. The driver, Jesus Valdez, was jailed in Eagle Pass.
Representatives of the Texas Fire Insurance Department from Austin are in Del Rio conducting a routine survey to fix new insurance rates. B. J. Bartlett and Edward Mixson oversee the effort, reviewing mercantile buildings churches and schools for rate setting. The survey, usually every five years, may last about three weeks.
