Former United States citizen Bare B. Mayheld enters gubernatorial race today backed by local organizations in counties. Mayfield declares he will tear links on and all, regardless of how votes go. Mayfield supporters back Ferguson and Governor Al Sutil for president, with uncertain turnout.
A demonstration occurred before the Mexican Embassy in Washington. Police reported pickets described as Mexican elements protested the embassy. Guards posted barriers to protect the diplomatic mission.
An appeal by the One Citizenship of eet Rip to raise funds for cemetery improvements was issued by the association officers. Donations may be given to any officer or left at the DeRin Evening News office. The leadership included Mrs Fawcett president, Mrs Pokes vice president, Mrs Warner treasurer, and Mrs Thompson secretary. The group thanked Burnett-Ware engineers for surveying work and the city for free grading. The annual meeting was held Friday afternoon at Mrs Fawcett’s home.
About 409 of the county's 3500 automobile licenses have been issued by noon at the tax collector's office. Roughly 300 poll tax receipts and a similar number of property-tax receipts have been issued. A six-person force has worked since January 2 when tax time opened, to continue through January.
Del Rio public schools will reopen Monday with all students required to attend at the normal start time. Supt. Rey M. Andres stated that plans for 1930 will be discussed at the regular monthly school board meeting Tuesday night. Mr. and Mrs. J. A. Martin returned Friday from a Houston visit. Martin is connected with the icing plant in Del Rio.
Mrs. E Miminem Jr 51 and her five children vanished Friday after visiting a son. City officer says the family failed to return home last night and police were alerted as investigators seek leads on the mysterious disappearance in Dallas.
The district court announces no jury term this October with two non jury weeks and no grand jury summoned for January. Court notes shift to non jury proceedings and urges no jury service for the near term amid operational adjustments.
In Mazomanie Wisconsin on January 4 Emers BE Jones held his divorced wife and 71 year old son in a hotel room siege. He killed Deputy Earl Vanduesen and fatally wounded himself after the sheriff and three deputies arrived to answer a call from Mrs Jones and her son.
Prof W J Baumgarner of the zoology department at Kansas receives an athletic award letter after long wait. He captained Kansas’ second team in 1899, with the award suggested by Coach Hurry Up Yost of Michigan then Kansas coach and Genny Owen, Oklahoma athletics director, a star from the 1909 team.
Joseph Chilton of Palestine, ML, carries a red lantern on his back while walking from his farm to town at night to improve visibility for approaching motorists.
Federal court in San Antonio will hear condemnation petitions after ether sent to a local sanitarium and Dallas firms was seized as adulterated under the pure food and drugs act. United States Marshal Walker reports the shipment originated with a Cleveland company and passed through several intermediaries before reaching Texas.
Albert Weigand a 60 year old musician shot and killed himself after wounding his elderly sister Anta at their Cincinnati home and attacking another sister Ida with a hatchet as she fled. Despondent over a stage hand strike that left him unemployed, the incident occurred today.
The bankruptcy hearing for the Border Steam Laundry Company was postponed due to date confusion in notices. Court attaches indicated the hearing will be set for a later date, with new notices to be posted and former employees inquiring about the schedule.
Powe leads 41 directors of the Chamber of Commerce to plan a sunua banquet at the Bane Hotel and a January road meet for the UV Highway 96 Association. A large delegation from Del Rio and Val Verde County is expected to advocate highway work from Ban-Aotenis to Del Rio. Judged Luuittens chairs the highway committee with publicity via area newspapers to attract Valley attendance and publish 1991 year-end reports.
Improvements are being made at several Del Rio dairies supplying milk to Del Rin to satisfy the Standard Milk Ordinance. Inauguration of recently elected officers for the Villa Acuna Chamber of Commerce occurred at noon Saturday. Elected December 6, the new officers are Jesus M. Ramon president, Jesus M. Montemayor vice president, Manuel Alfaro Carrillo secretary, and Raymundo Rivero, Pablo Trevino, Jose L. Flores, Casimiro Gonzalez, and Enrique Faz as members.
Walter Cales of Birmingham England broke into a church after two days without food and consumed the sacramental bread and wine. He surrendered to authorities and was sent to jail for the act.
Perry and Wobee Wake bond in two indictments returned last Tuesday. Separate charges accuse Perry and McBee of aggravated assault and false imprisonment with Frank Martin as complainant. Additional indictment alleges Perry threatened to take Mrs. Perry ife. State witnesses include Harmen Adams, Adams, McNeil and Martin. Offenses dated December 23.
Del Rio eyed for inclusion as Western Air Express plans a Las Angeles to El Paso through San Antonio route. J A Mann said the line would pass Del Rio with a landing field and future airport, while R A Oliver would visit San Antonio to finalize plans. Del Rio advocates push to keep the local route. otherwise another path may be chosen.
Johnnie Walker, an Ozona Negro, obtained the county clerk's free marriage license on Saturday morning marking the first license issued in 1930. He plans to marry Chaney May Brown.
Dr. Rodriguez, chairman of the Blues, reported 25 new members for the Mexican Chamber of Commerce at a meeting. Although absent, he recommended acceptance of the applicants via secretary Pena. A banquet February 5 will honor the new members with a musical program.
Three people weighing between 350 and 460 pounds were last heard from near Hel Rin Finder. Mrs W. FE Johnson, Water vhel Minh, Min Johnson described past sightings, placing them around Villa Acuna and San Felipe. Mexican authorities and Lisan der Pena are involved as searches continue.
A blaz e in the artist Carl Moberly’s studio near the Capitol damaged 41 paintings and court files with about 7900 dollars in losses. Capitol architect David Lynn led the inquiry but could not prove a cause, noting an artist claimed he had two drinks the day before and could not recall the origin. Moberly fainted from fumes but recovered. investigation continues.
The Martinez murder trial resumed as prosecutors introduced Martinez's confession given during arrest. The statement links Martinez and Leahy to Dr. J. A. Ramsey's death, describing a scheme to lure the physician, transport, a dug grave, and Leahy killing Ramsey.
A grand jury will hear charges against J. M Pope, Southland banker, for theft by bailee in Commerce on March 17. Pope disappeared December 5. only a few hundred dollars remained in the vault when the bank closed. He returned and posted 7500 bond signed by Lamb County residents. he claimed to have been in Cuba.
Baker Mont Jan 4 Further proof that Montana hosted mammoth animals before the glaciers was added with the discovery of a huge jaw bone by George Clark in Coal Creek district The jaw matches a human jaw but seven times larger with several teeth intact and a molar surface nearly eight inches. bone length is 32 inches.
Scrivner's bank robbery trial opens Monday in Galveston as defense seeks to prove his innocence in the December 1927 Texas City National Bank raid that yielded $5 000. The case was reversed because Scrivner was indicted under habitual criminal law due to a 100 year Dallas post office robbery sentence, later pardoned.

Oscar KB. Wade was arrested Thursday by police and awaits Sheriff J A Bachele from Blue Forth Minnesota. Wade faces charges of transporting a mortgaged 1929 Chrysler coupe and has waived extradition proceedings.
James Shelton of Belfast confessed at a police station to killing eight women in London but investigators found the statement unfounded. He sought shelter for the winter, and the inquiry established no such killings occurred.
Del Rio sees a two cent per gallon price drop announced by Eagle Distributing Co effective Monday at 7 AM. Wholesale drops to 19 cents and retail to 22 cents per gallon, with Anti-Nox down to 25 cents. Local garages estimate annual consumer savings around 300000 dollars in Del Rio and Val Verde County.
Fort Worth reports leaders in the fight over the tick eradication bill passed by the forty first legislature head toward Corpus Christi where Monday a federal judge will rule on making an injunction against J A Whitten permanent. If invalid the measure would affect all but 45 Texas counties according to Carroll Drew the tick eradication inspector. No effort is being spared to rid herds in these counties of the fever tick.
A kerosene stove at the Western Union office caused a fire alarm around 10 o clock Saturday morning. No damage occurred and fumes were extinguished before the fire department arrived. A crowd gathered expecting a larger blaze, leaving workers with a smoky interior.
In Harlem Montana on January 4 a local coyote problem has been tackled by four fast hounds owned by John Mahoney. The dogs have reduced the coyote population by forty to date, moving with speed and precision to detect tracks and corner the pest, leaving the animal effectively dead.
