New Jersey charges allege Bruno Richard Hauptmann killed Baby Charles Lindbergh and staged a ransom hoax two years and 10 months after the kidnapping. Attorney General Wilentz outlined the case before Col and Mrs Lindbergh. defense seeks mistrial. State witness Walter E. Roberts testified on Lindbergh estate charts.
The Court of Criminal Appeals denied a request for re hearing in the Gabriel Prendez assault with intent to murder case. Prendez, tried in Del Rio for the 1934 wound of Manuel Bosquez, faces a three year sentence after a 25 minute deliberation.
A San Felipe man was fined 12.70 in Judge John Lochabay's City Court for being disorderly after his wife said she feared for her life. Patrolman Bob LeRoy investigated and suspected intoxication. the man pleaded guilty.
Martin Eastwold owns a Danish 1564 book containing Luther sermons printed in Copenhagen. The elder Eastwold brought the volume to the United States from Norway through his great grandfather.

Theodore T. Whitehead alias Dalzal, once sentenced to 99 years for murder and five for robbery with firearms, was granted a pardon from the Huntsville state penitentiary. The case began with the 1923 killing of Roy Williams on a Brewster County ranch, followed by a 99 year murder sentence after trials in Bexar and Val Verde counties. Williams’ brother was Maverick County Sheriff J. H. Williams.
In McAlester Oklahoma on January 3 a posse arrested Malloy Kuykendall Eva Richetti Oscar Mullins and Sylvester Reese near Atoka for robbing Dallas resident T A Carr of his automobile. A large arms cache was found at the farmhouse near the capture.
Elsa Littell a 31 year old New York woman jailed for allegedly calling Reichsfuehrer Hitler a Jew was released today after ten days imprisonment in Waldmer Germany.
Del Rio recalls 60 years since Aunt Genie Wallen arrived with her husband to help build the town. She helped establish the Central Hotel and later the Wallen House, reared a foster family and now counts 10 great grandchildren as gifts from the community.
Defense in the conspiracy case involving seven defendants tied to the stay of five men on June 17 1935 rested at noon. The trial had been expected to go to the jury later today or tomorrow. In Arkansas Governor Futrell ordered National Guardsmen on duty after reports of threatened violence near Batesville where a deputy sheriff was slain in Lonely Mountain country.
Judge Lamar Thaxton opens a special term in Menard with a 130 man jury drawn for the case of H. B. Opp and L. E. Trimble charged in the death of Menard County Commissioner W. R. Tomlinson last November. Trials likely begin Tuesday January 8 with about 40 witnesses summoned by each side.

The forecast shows warmer conditions in the Southeast and colder air across the North and Northwest with freezing or below in the Northwest and North Central tonight. Rio Grande Valley and areas near the West Coast remain milder.
A 21-year-old twin girl died at 5 am Thursday after a truck struck three pedestrians on the Del Rio Quemado highway about 8 pm Wednesday. Twin sister Marine Westbrook and 23-year-old Chris Parker were critically injured and hospitalized. Parker was taken to Eagle Pass.
Street Commissioner Otto Kooy announced the Academy Street bridge over San Felipe Creek is open for traffic though approaches require more work. Relief labor aided construction, costing $350 to the city, with the new structure six feet wider four feet higher and longer than the old wooden bridge.
AUSTIN Jan. 3 Julius F. P. Franki assistant attorney general resigned to enter private practice. He served in the East Texas office handling county matters and will join the Vernon Hill and Sam Greer law firm of Mission. Previously he was a Rockefeller Foundation research assistant for the University of Texas Law School. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Julius Pranki Sr. of Del Rio.
