Chief John Connor of Uvalde was killed Saturday night. The Hunter brothers Jamie Bert and Laster, owners of Strand Theatre, and others are charged with murder. District Attorney Woodley says the shooting occurred after Chief Connor entered the theater without a ticket and refused demands to leave. Connor served as police chief for two years and is survived by a wife and several children.

Funeral services for John W Almond Sr 75 longtime county official and rancher were held at his 424 Garfield Avenue home with Rev H Conger Jones presiding. Almond, a key figure in Val Verde County politics, died after several weeks illness from bronchial pneumonia. He served as county commissioner, sheriff, tax collector and tax assessor, retiring as tax assessor in 1920.
