The officer ordered surrender but the taped victim could not respond and died en route to hospital.
Soviet official in Pravda accuses United States and Japan of sending agents for espionage sabotage and propaganda. He cites Pacific coast and Panama Canal as hotspots and vows continued destruction of spies and counter revolutionaries.

Cleveland police report five youths signed statements admitting gang involvement in the gun battle that killed Patrolman Gerald N Bode and Patrolman Virgil T Bayne. One youth was wounded as the sedan fled with a door open and the gas hose trailing. Authorities arrested another suspect at his home after spotting the car via the attendant’s license information.
Henry Edward Johnson Del Rio Negro appeared before Judge J P Aderhold in Justice Court Tuesday on stabbing charges against Herbert Barks. Johnson was bound over to the grand jury. Two Mexicans were fined $1 and costs for drunkenness and disturbing the peace. A truck driver was fined $14 for driving an overloaded vehicle.
In San Antonio on December 21 authorities consider canceling a Bexar County special deputy sheriff's commission after he attempted to arrest John Hillard a state liquor enforcement officer, labeled a stool pigeon. Chief Deputy Jo W. Davis announced the action.
Edwin Smith of Del Rio is one of 26 men at Texas Technological College awarded a varsity letter in football last week. Smith, a senior arts and sciences student, plays quarterback and will spend the holidays in Del Rio.
Federal officers pursued Theodore Cole and Ralph Roe after they vanished from Alcatraz and were believed to have escaped through a window and fence in the prison shop. The two men, both Oklahoma criminals, faced long sentences and vanished into uncertain currents toward the mainland, about a mile and a half away.
Weather Bureau reports good prospects for more rain Tuesday night and Wednesday in the Del Rio region. Del Rio recorded 0.18 inch of rain between Monday morning and Tuesday afternoon, bringing December’s total to 1.67 inches, above normal. Roosevelt extends talks with utility executives Frank Phillips and William Taylor at the White House to spur new construction.
New York December 21 Telegraph companies Western Union and Postal Tele graph announce plans to apply to the Federal Communications Commission for a 15 percent rate hike. They cite strained finances and credit due to declining revenues from a nationwide drop in business.
American Legion Auxiliary members sort and repair donated toys for Christmas for dependent children in Del Rio. Toys come from residents and were repaired at the city truck shed and will be delivered Friday with Boy Scouts aid under A S Hudson.
Elkins Park Pa December 21 A mountain of Christmas presents totaling 50 000 shipped to needy children across the Eastern United States via the Santa Claus Mail Association led by Mrs Birchall Hammer of Elkins Park The 1913 effort has grown to distribute about 600 000 prizes with cash gifts from nationwide contributors and a five woman team now handling purchases wrapping and mailing while Mrs Hammer remains a housewife and mother of five children

Alf Landon telegraphed President Roosevelt offering cooperation in difficult foreign situations. The President thanked Landon for the generous spirit and said it helps meet the problems in foreign relations during these troublesome times.
Eureka California December 21 coroner reports a 43 year old fisherman Nulo Sipila killed his two sons Raymond 10 and Leonard 8 with shots to the head in their beds then wounded their sister Marione 4 and killed himself Mrs Sipila 37 told Sheriff Henderson her husband had acted oddly for several weeks.
