Paul Edwards 56 a ranchman died at his Barroum Street home after a six month illness. Funeral services planned for 10 am Wednesday at First Methodist Church with Rev. L. C. Beasley officiating. Interment in Masonic Cemetery directed by Doran Funeral Home. He was born July 9, 1879 in California and lived in San Saba Rocksprings Del Rio and Edwards County. Survivors include four children two grandchildren and a sister Mrs. Lindsey of Galveston.
Main Street Tuesday morning was decorated with a Christmas cedar mantle. Two truckloads of cedar brush donated by Marshall Smith from his Nueces River ranch and John Rosenow from Carta Valley were placed along Main Street last night. Decorations supplied by the Chamber of Commerce decorations committee led by Paul J. Poag.
Three people were killed and 25 seriously injured as communal rioting followed a Sikh Hindu festival observance in Lahore. British and Indian troops were deployed to restore order.

A crew of 64 men, moved from the water main roll, started Project 233 6 to improve six and a half blocks of street and storm sewer between Highways 3 and 85 and Main Street. Gibb Street in front of the highway department offices will be gravelled and oil topped 29 feet wide with materials from the State Highway Department. Water main work was discontinued temporarily Tuesday.
Ranchmen using Highway 3 are urged to prevent livestock from escaping and trampling the state park under construction. W. D. Dockery, state highway divisional engineer, notes the park will cost about $17 000 and fencing would harm appearance, so ranchers must exercise care to keep flocks contained.
New Jersey governor Hoffmans stance on Hauptmann triggers debate while Ellis Parker the Burlington detective presses a line of inquiry. Parker cites a suspect living in New Jersey with no criminal record and argues Hauptmann is innocent of the kidnapping and ransom.
Tom A. Keene, special writer for Naylor's Epic Century, is compiling a county history for the next edition. The Del Rio and Val Verde survey will be profusely illustrated and cover the county from its beginnings through 1935, including Del Rio today and 25 years of progress in agriculture, livestock, and resources. Keene will remain in Del Rio for several days.
The paupers roll for Val Verde County lists 24 names for last week and shows a total disbursement of $35.25.
Langtry residents mourn the Jersey Lily saloon once tied to Roy Bean history as a state park prospect moves forward. State Highway Department official Dockery proposes a 100 yard by pass from Highway 90 to the site if deeded, with restoration and ongoing maintenance. James C. Netts seeks title transfer to enable the highway plan, meeting with Park Board chairman Wendell Mayes.
Silvano Rendon, 105, died Monday afternoon after a short illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. in San Felipe Cemetery under Edward LeRoy's direction. Born in Abasolo Coahuila in 1830, he came to Del Rio 30 years ago and remained active, seen on the streets recently.
SARNACLAKE N Y Dec 10 George Olvany Jr 22 son of the former Tammany Hall leader was found shot and critically wounded after apparently attempting suicide on grounds of a deserted hotel pistol lay at his side The case involves the heir to a political dynasty and a mysterious incident in upstate New York.
Del Rio Chamber of Commerce and Del Rio Garden Club appeal for more entries in the outdoor home lighting contest. Only four entries to date: Mesdames Hayes Rust Barton and Hamilton. Cooperation urged with simple displays also valued. Prizes include $10 first plus 24 other awards. Entry blanks due at Chamber office by 7 pm December 18.

Governor Allred announced a $1 424 876 final grant to Texas from the Federal Relief Administration. Officials outlined a direct relief budget through next March using state funds with about $2 000 000 reserved. About $400 000 in other federal funds are on hand.
Minneapolis police hold Isadore Blumenfield alias Kid Cann for questioning in the assassination of Walter Liggett a fierce Minnesota political foe. Blumenfield surrendered and police probe says Liggett was shot from a passing car as he and his family drove into an alley near his home.
Forecast for Del Rio and vicinity shows slightly cooler conditions tonight and Wednesday. Yesterday's high reached 63 degrees with a low of 47. This morning's minimum reading is 60.
Reports from Peiping say the Manchoukuan army used tanks and planes to push into Kuyuan after a battle that killed many. The invasion follows Manchoukuo forces gaining more Chinese territory.
