Inside the party in Congress a dry wing maneuvers toward placing Senator Pat Harrison as Senate Leader, replacing Senator Robinson. The anti prohibition repeal faction, led by Dinwiddie, seeks delay via state ratification and cautious moves, betting on legislative action to stall a federal vote.
About 150 farmers marched to the capitol in delegations and filed petitions with Vice President Curtis Speaker Garner and other lawmakers seeking a 500 million dollar federal relief fund a debt moratorium and back tax cancellations for distressed farmers. President Hoover met with another delegation for over 10 minutes. Garner pledged referral to the proper committee. Congress also received Hoover’s plan for realigning government bureaus with no economy estimates. the House expenditures committee said it would examine it immediately.
Five robbers snatched registered mail sacks from a mail carrier and guard in Chicago on Tuesday. Authorities say $510,228 was recovered, with only $228 in cash. the rest was negotiable securities and papers. Postal officials cite difficulty converting the securities due to broadcast serial numbers.
Marshall Brothers of Belvidere and West Chicago Illinois won second and fourth prizes on grade lambs fourth on range lambs and second on range year lings in the carload division of fat lambs and wethers at the International Livestock Show in Chicago last week. The lambs and yearlings came from their fattening pens and their feed rations matched those used for all fattening lambs and wethers at their yards. They have purchased and fed 15000 Texas lambs and yearlings this year and about three times that number from the northwest. They operate a ranch near Del Rio for many years.
Manuel Santana, sought in Del Rio on an immigration charge, was captured in Dallas and brought to San Antonio by U S Deputy Marshal Sam C. Wolf. He will be tried here and is jailed in the county jail on transfer, Wolf said.
Maxine Barlow, 21, died early today from a gunshot wound to the abdomen in Winfield Kansas. Coroner A E Morris said the wound was self inflicted in a fit of anger after she returned from a party.

Harlingen Texas reports the Lower Rio Grande Valley is becoming a Valley of Palms thanks to unemployment relief funds from the Reconstruction Finance Corporation. Over 2,000 laborers across three counties are employed, with much of the effort devoted to tree planting and lining main highways with palms.

Earl and Charlie Short, brothers, were charged with murder in Austin in connection with the death of John T. Reese, fatally shot and cut during an affray at a dance hall near Austin last night.
Boonville Missouri reports that Robert Armstrong a 62 year old farmer of Pleasant Green was shot and fatally wounded today by James Sterling a 70 year old deaf mute farmer of Pleasant Green Sterling was involved in the fatal shooting with Armstrong authorities investigated the case and no further details were provided
New York December 9. Conrad H. Mann president of the Kansas City Chamber of Commerce received five months in jail and a 12000 fine for violation of federal lottery laws connected to the Fraternal Order of Eagles frolics. Frank E. Hering got four months and 4000 dollars, Bernard C. McGuire was fined 12000 and sentenced to one year and a day. Judge Coleman stayed execution for 10 days and released defendants to attorneys custody pending bail appeal before the U S Circuit Court of Appeals.
Austin Dec 9. Speer plaintiff's attorney in litigation to stop further highway construction contracts said the matter would be taken to the Supreme Court for final disposal on its merits. The motion for rehearing before the Third Court of Civil Appeals would be filed. if overruled he would apply for a writ of error to the Supreme Court.
San Antonio December 9 A restraining order was issued in Dimmit County stopping a planned right of way through D W Light’s 52000 acre ranch near Catarina. The filing claims the route would sever 4000 acres of waterless land, render part of the property useless, and deny statutory notice or award for damages.
The will of J. C. Roberts bequeaths a 250000 dollar estate in London to his divorced wife. The statement concludes with the unusual bequest of a kiss to the spouse.
Rep R E Thomason and Sen Tom Connally of Texas will meet President Hoover to ask postponement of abandoning Fort D A Russell at Marfa. They plan to tell Hoover the decision should await Franklin D Roosevelt after March 4. Speaker Garner is expected to support abandonment.

Cadet M F Stewart 23 of Kelly Field made a forced landing Wednesday on a ranch near Juno about 30 miles southwest of Sonora while en route from Fort Clark to San Angelo on a training mission. He escaped injury but the aircraft’s landing gear was damaged and a plane was sent to retrieve him and repair the craft.
Bobbie Swift aged 24, nephew of FP. B. Swift of this city, died in a New Braunfels hospital Wednesday several hours after an automobile accident near there. His companion Taylor A. Cliett was instantly killed. The men were returning from San Marcos where they had been on a hunting trip.
The body of a man about 75 was found in a roadside ditch 12 miles northeast of Ento Oklahoma. He apparently froze to death.

Six miles of the Quemada Valley branch railway for Southern Pacific has been constructed from the Olmos Coal Mine siding toward the Del Rio highway and the hill overlooking Quemado Valley. The line supports irrigation and Spinach shipping season. about 3,000 acres of spinach grow in the valley.
San Angelo December 9 Jim Hill wool buyer for Robert M Pitt and Company Inc has bought 350000 pounds of 12 months wool from the Wool Growers Central Storage Company of San Angelo He paid 14 ½ cents a pound for 130900 pounds and 14 cents for the remainder Sumner Willis wool buyer for Walter Marston also bought a carload from the same company Hill has made several smaller purchases in West Texas in recent days
