A Dec 1 Washington protest near the Capitol drew about 500 Communists. A police shot caused near panic as demonstrators retreated. Police lines and tear gas were used briefly, with marchers shouting anti government and immigration protest themes.
W. C. Hodge, Dougie McDougald, and Thos. B. Reed are in Waco for a Blue Lodge session of the Grand Lodge. Reed has stayed about a week and may not return to Del Rio with Hodge and McDougald, who plan to come back late in the week. Hodge serves as district deputy grand master.
A search warrant was issued in justice court for a Del Rio home in connection with theft of hunting gear from two Brownwood hunters. The 20 gauge shotgun a 341 caliber Winchester and two French binoculars were stolen from a rear car compartment near the international bridge after hunters left for Villa Acuna. Value set at 125 dollars. The Sullivan brothers planned further hunting trips in South Texas.
New Orleans December 1. Ups plans to reduce cotton acreage were discussed at a Southern Cal Texas meeting presided by bank presidents and cotton leaders from across the belt. The group considered revision of loan systems to withhold financing from growers who refuse a 23 percent cut next year.
A 62 year old Midland tourist, A. A. Willingham, died from burns received while trying to kindle a fire with a can of gasoline on the highway near El Paso. He was unable to halt passing motorists as the blaze spread. Clyde Willingham, also of Midland, Texas, survived.
P Jeme W. Reno received a copy of the new booklet "Reno, Land of Charm" during a ceremony in Reno Nevada. The presentation highlighted local history and pride in the city’s development.
In San Antonio, club leaders urge Texas legislation to curb cactus export and protect native varieties. They cite Mexico and U S states imposing seasonal limits and note widespread removal of rainbow cactus and other species from roadsides, threatening scenic appeal and ecosystems.
The Catholic women plan a two day bazaar in the Parish Hall on Tuesday and Wednesday, December 2 and 3. Doors open at 2 PM with light lunches Tuesday and a Mexican supper served at 6 PM on the second evening. Fancy work will be sold throughout the bazaar. Mrs. E. F. Measels is general chairman with Mrs. George Newton in charge of fancy work and Mrs. Newt Wardlaw overseeing the apron booth.
Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday for Mrs Cas Walker 69 who died Saturday. Burial was at Westlawn cemetery here after initially planning for Buffalo Gap interment. Pallbearers named were Jack Paul Robert Kennedy George F Cox W H Adams Jess Cox and George Russell. The Rev James F P Black of the Church of Christ officiated. Mrs Walker had been ill with pneumonia for three weeks. She and her husband had lived on a farm on the Joop road for ten years. Mrs F H Doran of this city is a daughter. Mrs Walker was a native of Missouri.
A dance altercation in San Felipe left one man injured and led to four men appearing in city court. Each defendant paid fines and costs of 12.10 dollars. A fifth participant was jailed. Officers attributed the fight to whiskey.
Oklahoma City dispatch says C C Julian president of Julian Royalties Companies denied rumors that he was beaten at a hotel roof garden party by a guest. Herb Piesher general manager said Julian was not harmed and was working with oil scouts near Wewoka, unavailable for comment.
A dwelling on Magnolia Street in San Felipe was damaged by fire at 4 30 Sunday afternoon. The blaze caused minor damage with smoke and heat noted in the residence. Firefighters responded promptly to contain the fire and prevent spread to adjacent structures.
Gerald Duke 19, son of Mr and Mrs Earl Duke of Fairview, suffered severe burns in a Sunday night bathroom accident. He lit an electric heater and used gasoline to remove oil, igniting a cup of gas and singeing flesh from the waist down. Neighbors and family extinguished the flames. doctors predicted recovery despite intense pain. He is a Del Rio high school senior and former quarterback employed at a piling station.
Colchester in Connecticut reports J Lyman barter offers free haircuts to unemployed men to boost job prospects. The aid stems from the belief that a well groomed appearance improves employment chances.
Airplanes searched the Bierra Blanca range near El Paso today seeking Curtiss Davidson, 22, a Ysleta physical education teacher who vanished during a hunting trip last Saturday. Over 100 men scoured the area Sunday but found no trace, friends fearing a fall into a canyon or an accidental self harm.
Del Rio reports a heavy frost Monday morning the second frost in days and first heavy freeze of the season. Records show a light frost on November 20 with 36 degree lows and a maximum 80 on November 18. November mean 57.6, 24 below normal, 2.19 inches rainfall, 2.52 inches above year normal. December average 69 suggests above normal rainfall for 1930 even if December stays dry.
County Court in Val Verde opened Monday morning with Judge Roger Thurmond presiding. No new criminal cases were listed on the docket while several civil cases are to be disposed of.
Washington December 1 Chairman Blaine of Wisconsin, head of the Senate committee probing post office leases, said Congress should cancel all leases when the government pays excessive rent. He urged action if the opportunity offered itself.
Three bandits forced the truck driver and three guards to the riverfront and escaped with 19000 in collections from Cincinnati Street Railway Company stations. Police believe the men fled into Kentucky. The robbery occurred today in Cincinnati.
The county tax collector John W. Almond Sr. remains seriously ill with bronchial pneumonia and a weakened heart. Despite his condition he issues instructions to office deputies from bedside about monthly reports. His daughter Mrs. E. T. Seltzer of New York State is at his side, with two sisters in Corpus Christi nearby.
Williams N. Doak of Virginia was sworn in today as Secretary of Labor succeeding James J. Davis of Pennsylvania. The oath was administered at 1 05 p m by Samuel Gompers, clerk in the labor department.
William H. Young and Fred C. Young of W. H. Young and Brothers in St. Louis received six month terms after confessing a 2.5 million swindle. The investment firm failed last March, with investors harmed. charges against Harold Young were dismissed by Federal Judge Charles Fury.

A Doran ambulance carried the injured to aid, with Mexican authorities investigating the shooting as several hunters fired at a lighted hunter mistaken for a wild animal. Williams, editor of Nep tune's Log, had a Mexican permit to hunt in Coahuila with two companions and a tourist car permit.
