Harris County Sheriff T. Binford will retire January 1 after 18 years in office. A Harri s native, he began as a Houston patrolman and survived injuries from the 1917 riot against marching Negro soldiers. He chose not to seek re election and will enter the cattle business.
Weather outlook for Del Rio and vicinity calls for probable showers tonight and Tuesday. Yesterday's high reached 88 with a low of 71. This morning's low was 72. North area partly cloudy, south unsettled tonight. showers expected on the West Coast and Rio Grande Valley Tuesday.
Del Rio records 0.83 inches as weekend rain. Saturday 0.36 and Sunday 0.47 inches. Brownsville totals 5.5 inches with 3.5 in last 24 hours. Raymondville reports six inches. A tropical disturbance near Tuxpan moved inland with winds around 35 mph. not damaging. Farmers note citrus benefits.
Paris officials envision twenty planes flying from New York to Paris on May 21 to mark the tenth anniversary of Charles A. Lindbergh’s solo trans Atlantic flight. The French air ministry will sponsor the event offering a trophy dubbed the aerial blue ribbon of the Atlantic.
Mrs. William Walker aunt of Mrs. Joe H. Bridge of Del Rio died in San Francisco. Mrs. Bridge learned of the death while visiting the West Coast with Mrs. Walker. The body will reach Del Rio Thursday for burial likely in Bay City. Walker's son William Walker Jr. will accompany his mother home.
Gov Alf Landon denounces cockeyed New Deal tax legislation in a Buffalo address to about 25 000 at Offermann Stadium part of his Eastern tour. He charges the Roosevelt administration with piling deficit upon deficit and says the government should get a dollar’s worth for every dollar it spends.
Sacred Heart Academy will open for the regular 1936-37 school term on September 8, it was announced Monday. Registration precedes classes with the first day of instruction set for the morning.
Castel Gandolfo Italy Aug 31 Pope Pius to receive Spanish bishops in exile and announce a protest against the killings of priests and destruction of churches in the Spanish civil war. He plans a special ceremony at St Peter's upon return to the Vatican with likely broadcast by Vatican Radio.
Three Del Rioans travel to Beaumont for the State American Legion and Auxiliary convention. Mrs. M B Ellis serves as district committee woman for the 21st district while Mrs. Leslie Cranfill and Mrs. Herman Huebner attend as delegates. The convention runs through Tuesday September 1.
In KAHAKO Missouri on August 31, a new trial was requested for Mrs Nellie Tipton Muench and three co defendants who were convicted in the Gift of God baby case citing prejudicial behavior by the judge and trial foreman.

Victoria August 31. Dick Fields prominent rainsman was killed in an automobile collision five miles east of here. Injured were Jesse Horton Wood community merchant and Stayton Fleming Smith of Victoria.
Governor Allred designates Monday September 7 as Texas Labor Day. The proclamation urges Texans to study organized labor benefits, support worker welfare, and abolish sweatshops for women and children while promoting fair labor standards and peaceful dispute resolution.

Wilmarth Ickes, foster son of Harold Ickes of the Interior Department, was found shot to death at the secretary’s residence. Authorities labeled it suicide, noting ill health in recent days. He left a wife and three children.
Mrs. Alice Walker widow of cattleman B S Walker sues Ernest O Thompson state railroad commissioner in 67th District Court for 175000 alleging a 75000 promissory note to Walker's husband dated June 15, 1926. Interest at 19 percent, 10 percent collection fee, only 3750 paid, seeks principal interest and attorney fees.

General Hugh S. Johnson, a self styled friendly critic of the Roosevelt administration, will make his first speech for the Roosevelt Garner ticket in Buffalo New York on September 12 according to Democratic national headquarters announced today.
Book from College Station presents a sixth edition text on mechanical drawing. Authors include Dr. F. E. Ebiesecke director Texas Engineering Experiment Station A Mitchell head and H B Spencer of Texas A and M College. The 600 page work features 800 illustrations. first edition appeared in 1900.
Dr. Geo W. Cox resigns after about two years on the State Board of Health. He will be succeeded by Dr. J. Rowe of Kaufman, appointed by Governor James V. Allred.
County institutes for teachers in Comstock Langtry Pandale Juno and Jones districts meet Saturday in Comstock High School. State supervisors and County Superintendent W F Jourdan expect about three hours of teaching with a WPA program approving 14 scholastics for 1936 37 at six dollars per month per student.
Dallas police say a prisoner here identified as one of three bandits who held up an Oklahoma bank at Buffalo last June will likely be sent to Oklahoma for trial. He was arrested here on suspicion of complicity in a $25,000 jewel robbery last April.
In Tijuana lower California a dynamite blast killed Marie Madrigal after also killing her parents and wrecking a hotel. Police say the father, driven by jealousy, set off the blast, and the child was blown about 100 feet through a window.
In Los Angeles on August 31 Greta Garbo was sued for 10500 dollars by H. Fitzpatrick as assignee of D. Schratter who says he loaned Miss Garbo the amount in Berlin in 1924 when she sought American recognition of her screen abilities.
