On the Texas Health Department survey officer's recommendation Del Rio dairies were placed on the State honor roll of the United States Health Service. Dr D A York city health officer received the report from the Public Health Service Thursday. York conducts periodic inspections and sends milk specimens to Austin for analysis.
In New York Arthur Besse head of the wool textile code authority telegraphed Francis J. Gorman strike chairman that the industry would not confer with the workers committee amid threats of a general strike in cotton textiles. In Chicago Morris Bailis of the ILGWU said about 60,000 cotton garment workers plan to strike in coordination with the textile walkout.
Francis J. Gorman of the United Textile Workers says silk workers may join cotton textile strikes. The strike committee has held talks with Silk and Woollen Industries officials and awaits word from Peter Van Horn on the silk code authority. Gorman asserts the action will follow constitutional principles and will exclude communist elements.
Mrs Ida King 72 widow of John King died Friday at 1 10 am at the home of her sister Mrs E Wheeler in North Heights. Ill since her husband’s death in March she was born in Indiana and moved to Texas at 14. Rites held at Carta Valley Methodist Church with burial in Carta Valley cemetery. Survived by sister Mrs E Wheeler three nieces and one nephew including Rev W B Wheeler.
Clay Garner cast the first absentee ballot as Del Rio begins an August bond election set for September 8. Absentee voting ends September 3 with in person voting to September 4. The $78,000 PWA loan and gift grant fund a San Felipe water works project, with labor aims for Del Rio residents first then the county. Loans repayable with no revenue tax.

Last rites for 72 year old Mrs. Lou Emma Hamer were conducted Thursday at 5 p m from Doran Funeral Home with G O Frazia minister officiating and interment in Westlawn Cemetery. She died unexpectedly Wednesday at her daughter’s home after nine years in Del Rio. She was born in the San Saba area and had lived in Texas long time. Surviving are four sons two daughters three sisters one brother thirteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Pallbearers included John M Doak Geo E Love George Gentry Mannie Gault R M Bankhead and Captain Wheatley. Out of town mourners included Captain and Mrs Frank Hamer and son Frank Jr of Austin and others from Snyder Bruni Sheffield Big Lake and Seattle.
Buenos Aires reports Paraguay accepted proposals for cessation of hostilities in the Chaco war with Bolivia during a peace conference. Negotiations were pursued in Argentina Brazil and the United States as Bolivia's stance remained undecided while efforts aimed at a permanent settlement continued.
Amid drought driven meat shortages economists expect overall food supplies to meet demand. Beef veal lamb and mutton should be ample, but pork and total meat will be tighter in early 1935. Milk eggs cheese and canned goods remain plentiful with vitamins from dairy and vegetables. Poultry outlook worsens due to feed costs despite current stock levels.

Jap News Agency reports United States citizen John Johnson abducted yesterday by bandits who wrecked a Chinese Eastern Railway train at Muchin Manchukuo. Five Japanese passengers were killed and ten seriously injured. Johnson was among three MGM employees kidnapped. guards repulsed about a hundred bandits.
Relief Commission reported to Governor Ferguson and the Legislature that anticipated relief requirements from September 1 to April 30 would total 44 million 390 thousand dollars. Sol is a wool buyer for Wright Bros of Boston and has been in West Texas since February with San Angelo as headquarters.
Upton Sinclair, Democratic nominee for California governor, broadcasts a plan to end poverty by replacing capitalism with a state driven economy. He denounces Nazism and Mussolini, advocates seizing idle land and factories or leasing them, and proposes an EPIC program to employ the unemployed in state owned plants with tax funded exchange of goods for labor.
Firemen found the blaze extinguished at the J. C. Martinez residence on Rio Granade and Hill Streets in Fairview. A gasoline tank exploded but was quenched by neighbor R. E. Bush who lived nearby. No damage reported.
A bottle broke in the hand of C F Gerhardt Friday morning causing a gash above the wrist over an inch long. Several stitches were needed to close the wound. Gerhardt operates a bottling works on West Second Street.
Nellie Madison, awaiting execution for murdering her husband, told investigator Blayney Mathews that her husband killed Pasadena dentist Dr. Leonard Siever in a fight over a woman. She said Siever’s death was confessed by Brewer before her husband’s death. Police records list Siever’s murder as unsolved.
Charles B. Dillingham, 66, noted Broadway producer, died after a general breakdown. He helped launch Montgomery and Stone and mentored their long Broadway run. His early work included Watch Your Step and other light-hearted prewar hits at the Globe and Hippodrome.
J. Bradford and Carl Gerhardt of Del Rio were notified Friday of their appointment with J. D. Ingram of Uvalde to the Trade Practice Committee of the bottled industry for eight counties. The counties are Val Verde Edwards Kerr Bandera Real Kinney Medina and Uvalde.
