Delegation Seeks highway funds for Del Rio and San Angelo
A Del Rio San Angelo delegation will ask the State Highway Commission for 670000 in appropriations for highway work on State Highway 6 and U S Highway 277. The group left for Austin Wednesday and will appear Thursday, seeking 189000 for a 12 mile stretch from the present highway camp to Las Moras Creek including a Cow Creek bridge, and 600000 for U S 277 between Del Rio and Sonora with multiple bridges. An additional 310000 is requested for the Red Bluff project on Highway 277, with aim to eliminate high water hazards between Del Rio and Sonora by rerouting and bridge construction. Funeral Rites Held for W. E. Pound in Del Rio
Funeral services for 72 year old W. E. Pound were held at St. James Episcopal Church with Rev. Fred C. Rufle officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery. Pound died of a heart attack Monday in the Del Rio National Bank Building elevator while en route to the Medical and Surgical Clinic. He had a long contracting career, helped build Camp Mitchie, and resided in Del Rio since 1909 with his wife Caroline Pearson Pound. Survivors include Mrs. Pound and his nephew Allen V. Pearson. Pallbearers and honorary mourners listed. Pound was a Mason and Rotary Club member.
