RUM RUNNERS BATTLE COPS IN OKLAHOMA
In Altus Oklahoma Aug 30 a gun battle between rum runners and officers left Officer Elmer Carter fatally wounded and Chief Joe Witt seriously hurt. The clash followed a convoy of two men in a car and two in a whiskey truck fleeing toward Borger Texas after shots were fired. Carter died after reporting the ambush and naming two armed escorts in the car and two others with the truck. Witt’s condition remained doubtful.

Trainman Crushed By Freight Cars in Texas Accident
ABILENE Aug. 3. WP-B. PD Cheliete of Clyde Texas died this morn of injuries from being jerked under the wheels of a Texas and Pacific freight near here last night. One arm was crushed and death was due to loss of blood.
