Prisoner revolts and a jammed docket loom as preparations begin for the September term. Grand jurors 36 report on September 2, petit jurors 104 fall in on October 4, with major cases expected, including a San Antonio widow’s suit against Port Worth We Machinery and Supply Co over a fatal highway crash.
Roy M Aguire announces the resignations of Miss Marie Brock and Miss Bertha Deal and the appointment of two replacements. Miss Brock will be replaced by Miss Pauline Moytard of Streeter Texas in social science and Miss Deal by Miss Bertha Deal of Alto Texas in Spanish. Deal holds an A B degree and has graduate study at Colorado State Teachers College and Pueblo.
The Bangor area reports the unusual catch of a deep navy blue lobster brought in by L. E. Nive of Bangor. Other sea life seen in local ports remains ordinary by comparison.
Gov Roosevelt asks for a 20 000 000 appropriation to relieve unemployment in New York through a 1 percent income tax increase. He ties the proposal to legislative action and follows a call for an investigation into Tammany corruption as pressure grows on state politics. The Hofstadter committee gains power while partisan clashes intensify amid graft accusations.
Three movie houses were damaged Friday as a clash between owners and machine operators escalated. Police reported window damage to nearby buildings and the theatres. Several girls were injured but not seriously by flying glass.

An explosion rocked two St Louis shops injuring a 3 year old police character named William Bommarito. The blast damaged the business district and a shop claimed as gang HQ. Bommarito was found on the sidewalk and denied involvement.
George White 27 and a blonde woman named Ruth Williams 30 were pulled from the 10 oclock Southern Pacific train at Del Rio by Sheriff M L Whistler on telegraphic orders from Marfa. They will be held here pending arrival of Marfa officers. They are wanted by military authorities. Charges and purpose not specified.
Mrs. Howard Nelson discovered a hive of bees storing a winter honey supply in her woodburning stove chimney. She "smoked out" the insects to clear the kitchen floor as honey dripped through a stovepipe hole.
The Del Rio water works superintendent A Herzing, who has served the city for 34 years with no days off, finally received a three day vacation and a $20 gift from Mayor Long after years of faithful labor. He recalled wartime service in Manila and past work in the ice plant at Fort Clark, describing Del Rio in its early days with horse drawn transport and the first auto arriving in town.
The body of James LaFrance 23 of California is unclaimed at Doran and Yates Funeral Home after he died Thursday afternoon in Del Rio when a freight train crushed and mangled his arm. He had asked to notify Agnes M. Wright of Tujunga California if possible. He had no known relatives locally and may be buried by the county if no word arrives. He reportedly rode freight due to lack of funds and may have stumbled during a fall that injured a rib and lung.
Chicago August 28 Lightning during a storm set fire to the Presbyterian Theological Seminary. Two hundred dormitory students rushed to aid firefighters as the blaze grew. President John T. Stone and students prayed in the rain for the building's safety. Damage was five dollars considering the storm. The fire department handled over 270 calls in one hour.
A three foot gopher snake halted traffic on Main Street at Greenwood, slipping through a car interior and prompting a crowd to trap it. A Mexican youth with rope eventually removed the reptile from the vehicle, thrilling locals and marking the first Main Street sighting in years.
Preliminary inspection of remodeling at the Val Verde County courthouse and jail will be conducted Saturday by Henry I Phelps San Antonio architect whose plans were approved by county commissioners. County Judge Roger Thurmond said finishing touches remain and final acceptance hinges on commissioners court approval.
Dr. J. R. Brinkley said to decline the nomination for president by a third party after discussions of a possible run. He has campaigned in Kansas for the governorship and Mrs. Brinkley for the Kansas senatorial race. They plan to return to Del Rio early next month.
James W Bass, U.S. collector for the Southern Texas District, warns that federal law prohibits giving away cigarets made at home. Cigaret machines have surged in Texas since the 3-cent tax, and offenders face felony charges with fines from 100 to 5000 dollars and possible imprisonment from three months to three years.
Special Correspondent reports in San Angelo Aus a suit seeking 20009 damages filed in the 119th district court by Earl Albreght of Elk City Ohio against William Betts oil operator both injured in an automobile wreck three miles NW of San Angelo on the Carlsbad highway. Betts allegedly negligent driving at excessive speed caused the crash.
Eighteen cotton culling machines completed by the Lockhart Culling Machine Company for the Russian government. Each machine costs $750 and will be used in Turkestan to remove trash and light seed from planting stock.
Three county prisoners Bob Williams Frank Morris and Jim Pryor plotted to force a young Mexican inmate to crawl through a small jail opening to pry the lock. The plan failed after the Mexican objected and a scuffle drew deputies Thursday afternoon. The incident was reported Friday by Sheriff M L Bud Whinstier.
A large passenger plane plunged into the sea off Gloucester on Thursday night. Edward Banwell, 70, of Auburn Maine, perished while 12 others escaped. Three women were among those saved. one used her petticoat as a distress flag to summon a nearby ship. Passengers were forced onto the wings as the cabin flooded. The crash occurred as the pilot tried to drop below a fog bank.
It was a trifle cooler in Del Rio and vicinity with Friday fog and mist in the morning and a low of 75 degrees. Thursday's high reached 82 with a 71-degree low. The forecast calls for cloudy skies, local showers Friday night, and a cooler Saturday, per H. L. Molyneux, weather bureau chief.
Harry F Powers alias Cornelius Orvin Pearson, a matrimonial bureau operator, was brought to a Clarksburg garage Friday to view bloodstained clothing believed to belong to missing Illinois widow Mrs Aste Buick Eicher. He is being held in connection with the case but refused to talk.
Forecast calls for possible showers tonight and Saturday with cooler conditions on Saturday. Expect a Thursday high near 92 and a low around 75 reported this morning.
