Prison riot ends with four inmates dead in attempted breakout
Aug 27 Marquette. Prison physician Dr. A W Hornbogen was slain during an illness check when convicts assaulted him. A guard Joseph Dowling and two other guards were wounded as the inmates fled to the factory and barricaded themselves. Police used machine guns and tear gas to end the standoff. The four convicts are believed to have killed themselves to avoid capture.
