Hollywood reports the death of Lon Chaney the screen’s “Man of a Thousand Faces” after a bronchial illness. He collapsed during hospitalization with his wife and son by his side as doctors confirmed the death.
Former Gillespie County judge Mex Blum received a 47 year sentence after pleading guilty to 19 forgery counts and one embezzlement charge. The State alleged he forged signatures on documents totaling $11,990 and defrauded many clients who trusted him as trustee. He was jailed pending sentencing and appeared frail, having suffered a stroke.
Six people were injured when a racing car crashed afterIt was racing after a train near Longview. Dave Baxter a postal employee at Henderson sustained internal injuries and a broken leg. Jose Kira a 25 year old Mexican man who killed his wife with a rifle in a Port Bend County cotton field and wounded three others was the target of a large search. Bloodhounds from the Blue Ridge State prison farm joined a posse tracing his trail through the Brazos River and Oyster Creek bottoms.
