Aug 22 Paso. The Southwestern Baptist Association meeting at Las Cruces voted unanimously to back 6 pm closing and late opening hours for the Juarez El Paso bridge. A telegram urged adding the association name to a petition in El Paso. over 100 business firms signed.
Chicago Mayor Anton J. Cermak warned that city hall could close if funds are not found from the legislature to aid Chicago and Cook County. He urged measures to sustain police fire and teachers as a delegation of unemployed and poverty stricken residents pressed for relief. City Comptroller Szymczak said twenty thousand city employees face continued payless days after September 1.

Special Correspondent El Paso Aug 22 A romance from two years ago in Houston will culminate in a jail wedding. George M. Miller 36 a prisoner and Ruby F. Boyd a wealthy Houston woman plan to marry in county jail after she secured a license. Miller faces a 60 dollar bad check charge and a 750 bond set by Justice M. V. Ward.
A string of bomb blasts rocked Havana on Saturday, spreading fear as the city endures a fortnight of rebellion, leaving residents uneasy and uncertain about safety.
Washington August 24 The labor department said manufacturing payrolls of about 14 000 plants have fallen 37 percent since October 1929. Non manufacturing sectors show coal and oil regions hit hardest while telephone, power, light, and hotel industries kept payrolls steady. Through six months this year 1436 firms reported cuts averaging 10 percent. lumber followed with the most reductions.
Texas Gas Utilities Co officials D H Tucker R H Hurd W G McDonald J L Braly and 8 M Apperson from Del Rio conducted an inspection of company property in Uvalde during the week ending August 22.
Del Rio High School Wildcat football prospects are to meet at the club house Monday at 2 30 pm announced by Coach A L Anthony. Two daily practice sessions start next week ahead of the September 14 school opening, with 5 am and 5 pm workouts to prepare for the season opener in Junction on September 12. Coach Anthony said the full season schedule would be announced next week.
Delegates from Del Rio were elected by legionnaires as Dr. George H. Garrett and Frank Schmidt. Uncertainty remained Saturday whether they would attend the State convention in El Paso. Art Kramer, post commander, and H. L. Molyneux, government weather man, also planned to attend.

Beeckmann arrives from Town Creek Ranch and barbershop trade yields one haircut and a shave for a yearling mutton gear. Uyalde Aug 22 Four persons were arrested during the weekend raids by the sheriff's department and a large quantity of beer and whisky seized. The four are Bartolo Flores Guadalupe Gasia J E King and Roy Jackson taken to Del Rio by Sheriff Hurley B Clayton with charges filed in Federal court. Clayton then went to Eldorado to fetch Eddie Ballard for forgery charges.
In Chicago a Texas advertising salesman, B M Fugitt of Etna, 40, slept in his car near Michigan Avenue and was awoken by Patrolman Patrick O Malley who saw a double barreled shotgun under the folded seat. Fugitt said he bought the weapon 26 days ago for protection against gangsters and will go to police headquarters to explain.
