Government sheep and goat purchasing in Val Verde County aims to buy 50 to 75 percent of goats and about 15 percent of sheep. Mrs. Virginia Williams 49 owner of Williams Sanitarium died in her hospital room Monday night after a short illness following surgery for acute appendicitis. Born in Del Rio, she lived in Mexico before returning to help fund the Presbyterian Mission in San Felipe and later built the Williams Sanitarium on West Martin Street. Surviving are daughters Miss Alice Williams and Mrs. Louise Jones, two grandchildren, and brothers Fred Velasco and G. G. Velasco. Funeral at Doran Funeral Home pending Miss Williams’s return. Rev. Herbert G. Markley to officiate with interment at Westlawn Cemetery.
Mature White women are urged to apply for ranch house work openings. J. E. Fuquay of the Re Employment Agency reports several requests and no qualified applicants on file. Interested women should see Fuquay immediately.
Weather in Del Rio and vicinity expect general fair tonight with Wednesday partly cloudy skies. Yesterday’s high reached 96 degrees with a low of 78, and this morning’s minimum was 78 degrees.
A dozen or more bandits armed with sub machine guns robbed an armored truck in Brooklyn, escaping with about 427000. They emptied the pay bag in three minutes, leaving 29000 behind, and fled in two cars after stopping at the Rebel Co Ice Plant where guards and driver were assaulted.
Nazi propaganda guns fired an anti Christian barrage in Berlin provoking fear in Catholic and Protestant circles. Goebbels warned Catholics as Reich bishop Ludwig Mueller announced a drive to abolish Christianity to cover the city and county from autumn to spring.

Government cattle buying in Val Verde County resumes under E S Block with a 450 head weekly target. Since program start 6 000 cattle have been purchased including 3 750 shipped and 2 250 condemned and slaughtered. About 50 percent of Jan 1 county cattle were shipped or slaughtered. Local groups and firms aided transport and storage of meat for needy families.
In Childress on Aug 21, night policeman Sid Partin and Officer Frank West shot and killed Bob Ehringer after Ehringer drew his pistol during questioning. Ehringer, who asked that his mother be contacted in Iowa La, was identified by Sam Copeland as the man who robbed him of $18 a month ago.

Fifty three absentee ballots were cast on Tuesday with two days more for mail absentee voting. The run off on Saturday August 25 features 14 names for seven offices including Congress district 21 candidates Carl Runge and Chas South and statewide posts Governor James V Allred and Tom Hunter among others. The county ballot includes one race for County Superintendent of Public Instruction between W F Jourdan and Marie Grande Adams.

Dr John R Brinkley will start remote broadcasts October 1 from Del Rio to Abilene Kan Yankton S D and Des Moines Iowa with talks on KFBI WNAX mornings 7 to 730 and evenings on WOC WHO Davenport Des Moines stations later. The Brinkleys and Jennie Boy plan to return to Del Rio September 5 and reopen the sanitarium afterward.
In Dedham Massachusetts on August 21 the body of Rev William P Drennan a Chelsea parish priest about 50 was found on the Ames Junior High School grounds. Police said foul play possible due to indentations on the left head and an open pocketbook nearby with a dollar bill on the grass.
Peru Illinois August 2 workers at the Western Clock Company claimed a new world safety record for an industrial plant by surpassing 9,166,635 consecutive hours without an accident. The previous mark was held by the Old Hickory Tennessee plant of E I Du Pont de Nemours.
