Alvin Karpis threatened the life of J Edgar Hoover in a letter received by Hoover a month ago. Hoover declined to comment as federal agents pursue him after the Edward Bremer kidnapping in St Paul last year. Karpis was last seen escaping the Atlantic City trap last winter.

Twenty five men were added to the city force Monday to dig trenches for the new San Felipe water system. They are laying a pipeline from the Pit Pen crossing to the San Antonio highway, the first lap in construction. About 15 miles of pipe will be laid before completion, per City Commissioner Otto Koog who oversees the project.
Jeanette F. Ledbetter, 85, widow of Capt. W H Ledbetter longtime Texas Ranger, died suddenly at her Richland Springs home. She moved to San Saba County in 1857 and is survived by five sons, four daughters, 35 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. burial at Neal Sunday.
