The Del Rio Wool and Mohair Company sold 2000 pounds of mohair to Jack Alloon for Munro Kincaid Edgehill of Boston. Prices ranged 41 to 55 cents per pound, with shipment from reel Ric Priday.
In Junction Texas 110 Angora bucks averaged about 50 a head selling at two day Hill Country Billy Gale auction. Wednesday sale saw 50 billies bring 62 896 50 for an average 86 53 a head. A crowd of 3 000 attended the rodeo and race meet as the event closed Thursday afternoon.
Delegates and visitors to the thirty third International Typographical Union Convention arrive in Fort Worth as two factions prepare for ITV policy battles. Independent Party leaders Claude Baker and John Conley head one camp, while Francis Barrett and Woodruff Randolph lead the Progressive set. Thomas J. Margaret L. Cowan 67 year old spinster was charged with murder in the mercy killing of her ill sister Mrs Louella Saeger at the Allentown State Mental Hospital. DA to seek sanity exam with hearing set by Alderman Slough. Cowan claimed she killed to end her sister’s suffering.
In Camden New Jersey August 18 a thief stole a set of false teeth from a sleeping man Morris Mahoney but was caught by a policeman on a nearby bridge as he pocketed the denture. The teeth were recovered.
Report from Louieville Kentucky describes pedestrians laughing as a giant old automobile is towed by a small car through the streets. The larger car bears the sign For sale 10c a pound.
Fire at Baker Filling Station on Avenue F and Gibbs Street prompted calls to the fire department at 10 10. Fire Chief Frank J Schmidt said a Texas Company gasoline truck was filling an underground tank when a nearby youngster flicked a cigarette toward it. The driver cut off flow and extinguished the flames with chemicals. no blaze remained when units arrived.
At Manassas Virginia a week of war games for 23,000 men of the First Army ended with consensus that the doughboy remains the backbone of the Army. Maj. Gen. James K. Parsons praised the troops and noted infantry remains essential for taking and holding ground amid modern mechanized forces.
Drizzling showers added 0.1 inch to Del Rios total for August reaching 4.47 inches. Normal monthly rainfall is 1.72 inches, placing August 2.75 inches above normal. Forecasters expect partly cloudy skies Friday night and Saturday. Rain spurred travel delays on Highway 90 near Uvalde and affected nearby Hudson ranch area.
Joe Pullim, colored, was found not guilty after a Sixty Third District Court jury returned an instructed verdict. District attorney Roger H. Thurmond joined defense attorneys Beverly Rust and Julian La Crosse in seeking the verdict. Pullim was indicted in July and the trial ended at the special term.
Federal Judge Davidson ordered the dismissal of Freeman Burford from custody for charges in a joint indictment with former Louisiana Governor Richard Leche and Seymour Weiss. The ruling followed a habeas corpus hearing, finding no reasonable probability in the case against Burford.
