The Rev. John P. Lonargan longtime chaplain at Calvary Cemetery in Long Island City died after a long illness at 74. He noted he officiated at about 100000 burial rites and was humorously called the Priest of a Million Dead in Blissville Long Island City.
Pi Mre Bowman surrendered to officers after her husband was killed by shotgun. Deputy Maxwell quoted her saying she fired to save her four children from threats. In Chicago James Gray a gambler surrendered claiming ignorance of the death of Police Sergeant Mary Louise Trammell and saying a notebook was stolen.
The San Antonio Chamber of Commerce will join a caravan from Del Rio over the proposed Villa Acuna Allende Saltillo highway in early September. Owel Jones says at least one San Antonio car will ride in the journey and chambers from its territory are asked to participate. Plans hinge on a Saltillo conference with the Coahuila governor on route development.

Ten residents filed changes of precincts after the July 22 Democratic primary, records show in Lyle Almond's Tax Assessor-Collector office. Monday was the deadline for address changes ahead of the run-off on August 22.
Karnes City, Aug 18. Martin Salge, a grocer and volunteer firefighter, faced confusion when the fire siren rang. With no one to lease the store, he watched the commotion from outside as firefighters rushed past and a call warned the fire was at his own house. He closed the store and motored to the blaze.
County Clerk W. A. Hopkins reported 23 absentee ballots cast for the run-off primary, with voting ending Wednesday August 19. Officials noted low interest since only one local office and two state offices are contested, following more than 100 absentee votes in the July 22 Democratic primary.

He and three Texas livestock committeemen presented three suggestions and noted the officials neither approved nor disapproved.
Storm warnings were issued along the Southern Texas coast as a tropical disturbance likely to move inland near Tampico, Mexico, prompted Coast Guard notices and preparations in the Lower Rio Grande Valley. Nine fishermen from Greenville San Antonio and Brownsville faced potential danger while awaiting orders to depart from the beach.

EDMONTON August 18 North America will face a seed shortage as severe as any since development of the West. W T G Wiener secretary of the Canadian Seed Growers Association says a survey shows a widespread shortage across the northern half of Canada and into the United States. He notes the breath area is unusually wide ranging from Prince Albert to Kentucky and from New Brunswick to California.
In Houston the State Railroad Commission chairman Ernest Thompson praised oil conservation saying the policy has extended the field life by maintaining pressure. He projected an ultimate recovery increase of about two billion barrels due to conservation measures.
John Hamilton, chairman of the Republican National Committee, will give the principal address at the Texas State Exposition in Dallas. The speech marks the first time a RNC chair has spoken in Texas during a presidential campaign. The event, 8 p m Tuesday in the Court of Honor, will be broadcast nationally and attended by a party of 14 arriving at Love Field.

In Asheville North Carolina on August 16 a mother Mrs Helen Angel Painter of Cincinnati recovered her daughter Florence Barghaliz after a nine year separation. A custody hearing before Judge H Hoyle Sink is scheduled for August 25 as Mr and Mrs G J Wile of Hendersonville seek guardianship. The Wiles say the child has lived with them and allege the mother is unfit. The child vanished from the Asheville home in October 1927 and the case had been a county mystery.
A requisition to extradite Charleton B. Chilton of Cleveland, an escaped convict, will not be sent to Ohio until about September 1, per Pred Cunningham, the pardon parole officer. The report cites Oklahoma City action dated August 18.
