A carload of fire hydrants for the new San Felipe water system arrived Saturday and crews will unload them. Roy J. Perkins won the post 23 commander's seat at a Friday Chamber of Commerce meeting. New officers include Phil Garoni as vice commander Art Kramer adjutant L L Schneers finance officer L L Schneers sergeant at arms Clyde Carr chaplain Edwin H Block and service officer E O Elmore. Regular meetings shift to the second and last Mondays each month. Adjutant Kramer said members missing the Sept national convention in St Louis may request six special editions of the St Louis Post Dispatch. Expiring terms: Commander J E Fuquay vice commander Roy Chastang adjutant L L Schneers and finance officer Marvin Ellis.
The eight acre tract along State Highway 3 near San Felipe Creek has been cleaned of brush dead trees and flood debris by the local highway department. Bids for the beautification project are due August 20 by the State Highway Department and the site will be graded landscaped and planted.
Gilberto Cerda age 28 was elected superintendent of the San Felipe Independent School District for a two year term at a board meeting Friday evening. He replaces Dr. Carlos E. Castaneda who resigned to pursue research for a book. Cerda is a Del Rio High School graduate who worked as a soda clerk while completing school and earned a UT degree in 1930 before beginning his teaching career in San Felipe schools.
The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce announced tickets are available for a banquet honoring Dr John R Brinkley upon his return in the first week of September. Organizers say the event expresses appreciation for his work in Del Rio and anticipates the reopening of radio station XER.
The House refused to confirm Senate amendments to a bill barring suits on government gold clause securities. It sent the bill to conference to resolve differences. The chamber voted to bar further suits on payment of gold upon enactment, while the Senate forbids them after six months.
County Judge Clarence Herreford announced the August 24 statewide election includes seven amendments. Key items include repealing statewide prohibition with local option, old age assistance up to 15 dollars monthly, federal aid for aid, probation for defendants, and shifting some officer pay from fees to salaries. Free textbooks for schoolchildren are also proposed.

The Albanian government reports the abortive uprising by 35 police and a few civilians was fully crushed. Most rebels were captured while others fled into the hills, ending the latest revolution attempt.
The bodies of famous aviators Will Rogers and Wiley Post were flown from Point Barrow Alaska toward Seattle with Joe Crosson at 5 a m Central Standard Time. The crash near Point Barrow occurred after fog forced a landing and an engine misfire caused the craft to plunge into two feet of water.
Mrs Wiley Post abandoned plans to fly to Seattle to meet the body of her husband Wilbur W Post. She will remain in Ponca City and go to the Post family farm near Maysville to await the body.
Mrs Will Rogers and her daughter Mary reached New York en route to California to bury the remains of Will Rogers. The humorist and Wiley Post died in an Alaskan plane crash during a cross country trip.
Democratic leaders expect to adjourn Congress in the coming week with major bills such as the utilities measure possibly scrapped. A White House conference with the President and congressional leaders is planned for Sunday night to discuss last minute business.
Italian dispatches from Harar report that the Issa tribe struck the Assaimara at Adagalle in French Somaliland. A pitched battle left about 100 dead, including twenty French tribesmen.
A three inch rain drenched a 60 mile swath around Pumpville late Thursday and Friday morning. Ranch owners reported the heavy shower occurred within about one and a half hours and was traced to showery conditions in the area.
A man who had evaded investigators for weeks walked into a House committee session voluntarily. He stated the public isn’t interested in voting rights of utility stock and that they would keep the voting stock themselves as long as possible.
W W Cox of Cox and Hampton Warehouse arranged a registered Delaine ram sale in Brady for September 13 and 14 at the Cox and Hampton facility. Nelson Johnson of San Angelo will auctioneer the 400 head sale, aligning with a successful Rambouillet sale last July, with local breeders seeking top breeding stock.
Mary Jane Gray, 63, of Duncan Oklahoma, was reunited with her brother W. T. Jones of Kermit in Winkler County and sister Mrs Fanny Dickinson of Snyder after 62 years apart. A Dallas News want ad led to the meeting held in Kermit.
Mrs. W. E. Miller of Sand Hill Floyd County has a contract to furnish Texas A&M College with 8000 No. 3 cans of blackeyed peas for the 1935 36 school year. She began August 15 and expects to complete the last shipment by October 15.
In San Angelo on August 17 a wool sale moved about 200000 pounds at top prices of 7 to 7 1 2 cents per pound. Lyndon F Webb sold 46000 pounds to C F Ancell of Hallowell Jones and Donald at 20 cents. Winterbottom bought 17090 pounds and Colonial Wool Co. paid 21 1 2 cents for 18000 pounds from the same warehouse. Angell purchased 2000 pounds and Draper and Co. 1000 pounds. One warehouse closed its sample bags until November 1.
Pilot Joe Crosson lands in Fairbanks with the bodies of Will Rogers and Wiley Post after transporting them from Port Barrow. The arrival marks the completion of a sorrowful mission in the aftermath of the crash.
Paris report says Premier Laval outlines a settlement to Italy and Ethiopia involving removal of Ethiopian economic privileges, loans for Ethiopian development, and Italian influence in Ethiopian technical and customs appointments. Anthony Eden agreed to the first point, awaiting Britain's cabinet stance on the rest.
John D. Smith of Junction was fatally shot five times in front of the Fleisher Case in Rocksprings shortly after 11 p m Friday. Roscoe Morris a Schreiner backed special ranger surrendered to Sheriff Ed Young and posted a 5000 bond awaiting grand jury action as district court convenes in Rocksprings.
Market reports from San Angelo and surrounding counties show mutton and ewe lambs selling for October delivery at new highs for 1935. Ranchers in Mason and Brady counties price fat calves around 6 to 7 cents a pound, with robust demand and heavy grazing across West Texas as winter outlook improves. Notable sales include Marathon’s Dick Arnold at 7 cents for lambs and 7.5 cents for ewes, and 6% cents for calves moved to Kansas City buyers via Brady area shipments.
