Del Rio reports 1929 permits reach about $699 000 by August 15 with $50 150 for the month so far. The Montgomery Ward two story project leads at $37 000, plus a $5 000 adobe home and small remodeling and porch work. A Methodist Church project will add about $75 000.
Judge W F Littleton and FE P Coe of Del Rio made a 21 hour round trip from Del Rio to Amarillo and back covering about 1100 miles at an average 533 mph. The journey, begun Wednesday night and ending Thursday night, included mud rain and two flats.
War Department approves the Galveston Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway bridge across Buffalo Bayou at Houston. Construction to proceed as planned following the August approval.
Sol Kelly, Sonora rancher, announced the lease of the 9,090 acre Schleicher County Rector Henderson ranch for six years and three months at 75 cents per acre. He also bought stock totaling about 65,000 dollars and plans trips to western Wyoming, then to Mexico with guide Marton McBee.
Jimmie Frye assistant manager of the local McLellan store will be transferred to San Angelo to take over the work and leave here Sunday for the new post. Frye has been in Del Rio since the store opened, coming here from San Antonio. Wilbur Ramsey of San Antonio will not succeed Frye in the local store.
Harry Sinclair now in District of Columbia jail has appealed to President Hoover for executive clemency. The appeal was announced at the Department of Justice today.
Fire that burned for 93 hours above a fifty million cubic foot gasser in the Taylor Link oil field was blown out at 3 10 this morning by Tex Thornton famed oil field fireman. The gasser was brought in by Landreth Production Company Tuesday. Sparks from flying rocks ignited it.

The Daily News corrects an error about The Story of Del Rio. The film actually screens Saturday night for its final showing. Friday and Monday listings were incorrect. Attendees praised the picture, and many are expected at the final screening tonight.
Twenty five Del Rio and nearby boys completed ten days at Camp Fawcett on the Nueces River. Prizes were awarded for best camp and first aid, several scouts earned ranks and honors, and White Chief Herman Lehman spoke of Comanche history.
The water line from the city waterworks to the Del Rio Refinery Company plant is being ditched and recovered. A new circulating pump is being installed in the pits at the refinery to circulate cool water over the plant. The line runs from the city supply, not from the new waterworks under construction on the hill.
Bobby Wren, son of H Wren and former Polytechnic High School quarterback, will report soon to Coach Anthony for early training with the Fort Worth Wildcats. Anthony expects stronger play as Poly II I competes in Class A while Del Rio remains Class B. Exact reporting date not released.
P A Cressey of San Antonio stops in Del Rio on return from Hollywood California. He visited Eagle Distributing Company, Neon Signs representatives, and reported a very good trip to the Golden State.
Austin reports Agriculturals and Mechanical College seeks conference with Governor Moody to craft an operating plan under vetoes. The college says salary vetoes total 50,125 dollars yearly and maintenance cuts of 14,150 dollars threaten efficient operations.
The Methodist Episcopal church plans for a Spanish colonial style building were approved by the church building committee. Bids will be accepted until 2 pm September 19 at the pastor’s office. The new church on Pecan and Greenwood will face east toward the courthouse, with a 525 seat main auditorium and a matching educational wing, total investment about 190000 dollars.
