Kansas Corporation Commission ordered 19,268 wells in Kansas throttled down at noon for fifteen days as a retaliatory measure against lower crude. Louisiana also weighing a ten day shutdown.
Oklahoma and Texas moved to shut down all oil wells for fifteen days in a protest against potential crude price cuts. New Mexico joined later with a similar plan as Gov Miles prepared a fifteen day proclamation.
Attorneys general arrive from Austin to investigate Humble Oil and Refining Company and its reported agreement with Standard Oil of New Jersey. Railroad Commission chair Sadler asked Attorney General Gerald C. Mann to review possible anti trust violations in Texas.
Berlin reports mounting signs of a near term development on the Danzig and Polish Corridor issue. Goebbels returns from Italy, Italian foreign minister Ciano hastens to Rome, and Berlin presses for a speedy resolution while warnings to England France and Poland grow louder. Gasoline rations spread, Baltic fishermen are barred, and German troops are described as massed along the frontier with booklets on how to request necessities in Polish areas.
Walter Cox, custodian of the Moore Park pool, is in San Angelo taking a Red Cross first aid and life saving course under Roger Plaisted. The program aims to certify him as a water safety instructor and life saving examiner, with logistics covered by the Val Verde Red Cross, Del Rio Park Board and Boy Scouts. He will return home Saturday.
Public hearing on Val Verde County's 1940 budget will be held August 28 in the office of County Judge Grover C. Poole at the courthouse. Taxpayers may appear and take part in the discussion as the Commissioners' Court, led by Judge Poole, conducts the hearing.
Governor W Lee O Daniel said he would issue two Thanksgiving proclamations if President Roosevelt moved the date. He suggested November 23 and November 30 as the two observances to avoid hardship from shifting football schedules and school plans.
One life rank and two class rank applications were presented by Boy Scouts Tuesday at Moore Park under John L. Dodson. Charles Tagliabue Jr. submitted his life ranking bid. The session awarded 31 merit badges in total.

Dr J R K Brinkley of Little Rock and Del Rio appeals a Texas federal verdict denying 250000 damages in a libel suit against Dr Morris Pishbein of New York and the American Medical Association. The February 1938 magazine piece called Brinkley a charlatan and questioned his gland transplanting methods.
Faith Lutheran Church plans to elect three trustees by congregation vote. The decision was made at a Faith Lutheran Brotherhood meeting held Tuesday evening at C. J. Moehring home on Third Street. Attendees included Sidney Harle Robert Harle Clifford Harle George Flynt Charles Shindler C J Moehring and the Rev Earl Moehring.
George M. Brennan of Washington DC, an Intermediate Credit Bank commissioner, said livestock prices have held up across the United States. He spoke in Del Rio en route home from Spokane after attending a presidents of credit banks meeting, noting good crop conditions and continued low-interest loans for agricultural products for at least six more months. Brennan praised Texas sheepmen for their handling of wool loans and cited price stabilization aided by the program.
Mr and Mrs J W Porter celebrated their sixty second wedding anniversary Tuesday with children grandchildren and friends. They married in Kirkville Missouri and moved to Del Rio about 1920 after five years in the Panhandle. Their four children were all born in Missouri. Present were Mrs J P Yoas Carl Yoas and son Carl Jr Mrs H P Roberts Andy Garrett and son Robert Paul a great grandchild Geraldine Garrett Lloyd Garrett Jack Garrett and Mrs M P Garrett.
