In Hot Springs Arkansas police raiders fatally shot a man identified as Alfred Lamb 26 Texas fugitive wanted for questioning in a killing linked to Huntsville and Richmond Texas. The armed confrontation occurred last night during a fusillade of shots.
U S Weather Bureau notes Del Rio received three hundredths of an inch of moisture early Monday with rain falling between 2 and 4:30 a m The rest of the forecast calls for partly cloudy skies and possible local showers. In Indianapolis Aug 16 Scott Meiks predicts 600000 feeder lambs will be purchased this fall as Texas supplies rise due to below normal Panhandle pasture.
The Associated Press reports scattered showers and cooler winds gave Texans a temporary reprieve from weeks of heat. Dr J L Cline of the U S Weather Bureau in Dallas warned the heat may persist, predicting further showers in the East and portions of West Texas with the hot spot in the Dakotas expected to influence Texas.
Mr and Mrs Sam Bell announce a barbecue to celebrate the spudding of a wildcat well 4000 feet deep in Section 68 Block D 7 Sam Bell ranch 15 miles SE of Dryden Terrell County. The event will be Sunday August 22 at noon at the D 8S Oil Company's No One Sam Bell Well with many guests invited.
Joe King the new dean of music at St Edward's University in Austin will leave Del Rio August 31 for Austin. He was chosen as the only applicant capable of teaching all music departments. Mrs King plans to join him in Austin after her departure from Del Rio.
The state planning board finished a Wool scouring plant study for Texas. Director E A Wood oversaw the research conducted by Hawley Freese and Nichols of Fort Worth. Texas wools now ship to New England for processing. the report argues a Texas plant could profit from by products and spur local industry.
Cincinnati Aug. 16. A grand jury indicted 31 year old Anna Hahn on two murder counts after evidence cited as the biggest mass murder case in the country. Authorities say two poisons were found in victims and Hahn admitted aiding four of the elderly men during illnesses as investigators probe eleven deaths dating back eight years.
Harlan B Carter, Border Patrol inspector and noted pistol marksman, plans to depart August 18 or 19 for Oak Harbor Ohio to compete in the Camp Perry National Rifle and Pistol Shoot starting August 23. He joins a 16 man Border Patrol pistol team and will be away about three weeks.
Veil Walker 26 surrendered to the county prosecutor and confessed to shooting his father Albert Waller in the back as he carried bedding outside. He said he killed him after money for a grand operation was refused and cited neglect of sex education and a desire for treatment by Dr John R. Brinkley in Del Rio Texas. The Waller family includes a mother, an invalid sister, and seven year old twins.
Houston reports say rioter L Teh? Rea Austin Killer who abducted three Colorado River fishermen fled to the city and was found shot dead in a house early this afternoon. Officers believe self inflicted wounds ended the case.
Jas C. Netts reports satisfactory progress in logging the Villa Acuna Allende Saltillo highway route. The Del Rio Chamber of Commerce party, with William Furlong and Arnulfo Ramon, traveled via Allende and Monclova, noting a warm reception and plan to film 600 feet of motion pictures and 100 stills. They aim to meet Saltillo officials and travel to Monterrey to push the project.
Governor Alfred offers 500 dollars for information leading to the arrest and conviction of anyone involved in the tarring and feathering of Herbert Harris. He condemns the act as shameful and vows Texans will not tolerate such flogging in Dallas during the Ku Klux era.
Funeral services for G W Gathings 88 grandfather of Mrs Ray Ross of Del Rio were held in Covington at the family burial ground last Wednesday. He died in St Johns Hospital in San Angelo the previous Tuesday. Mrs Ross and her children were in San Angelo visiting when word arrived. The Postmaster Ray Ross joined the family upon notification as they returned to Del Rio.
A grand jury indicted Anna Hahn, 31, on two murder charges in a case prosecutors call the biggest mass murder here. Jurors say she poisoned two elderly men. Police investigated 11 deaths and three illnesses after Hahn's custody last Tuesday.
Franco Francoism advances on Santander as insurgent columns push from Valencia and Burgos provinces toward Reinosa and the coast. Government reports claim Reinosa threatened from two directions while insurgent air, artillery, and infantry soften defenses, with over 1,000 captured.
Two thousand five hundred dollars was paid to the government buyer by Fort Clark for a pecan crop from four miles of Las Moras Creek bottom land. The Fort Clark Post Exchange handled the deal on a Monday, yielding the highest price ever received for the pecans.

A feed barn at Buck Burditt’s Gary West of the city caught fire Saturday about 11 20 o clock. The barn stood next to the work house the creamery with its cooling system and the Burditt residence but all buildings were saved from the blaze.
