A large trash fire burned in a deep arroyo near Artega and Live Oak Streets in San Felipe on Wednesday at 10:30 p m drawing the Del Rio Fire Department. Fire Chief Harry Arfman said debris and weeds were dumped in the arroyo and one fire was set before an alarm. Firefighters did not attempt to extinguish the blaze as no life or property was in danger and about 1,500 residents gathered, hindering access to the scene.
President Roosevelt signed a bill establishing a 40 hour work week for postal employees. The measure is expected to create about 10 percent more permanent positions for men currently on a 71 strong postal substitute list.
Twenty two youths aged 7 to 16 questioned in Val Verde County Sheriff Office after 175 window panes at West End Elementary School were broken. Damages exceed 200 dollars. A second hearing is set for Friday at 9 a m.

The meeting focused on rustling prevention, agency cooperation, and plans for a Rio Grande quarantine area with a WPA survey and state legislative authority.
