Governor seeks new law to curb horse race bookies

Governor Allred launches a drive to halt horse race betting by seeking an injunction against information distributors. District Judge Wheeler grants a temporary injunction against Daily Racing Form Publishing, Texas News Service, AT and T, and Southwestern Bell to stop gathering or disseminating racing information into Texas. Brackettville Husband Wounded and Wife Killed in Food Stand Shooting

Mrs. Julia Camp was found dead and her husband Robert Camp seriously wounded Monday in Brackettville. The attack occurred at the Camp hamburger stand on Main Street between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Mrs. Camp's body was sent to San Antonio for burial.

Rites for Mrs Julia Ann Dunn Held Today

Funeral services for 74 year old Mrs Julia Ann Dunn were conducted at the Doran Funeral Home with Rev L C Beasley officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery. Born August 7 1861 in Houston County she had lived in Del Rio thirty years. Survived by husband Gus Dunn two daughters Elia Goodman and Eva Davis and four sons Travis Horace Hiram and Oscar.

Great Tunnel Holed Through Early Between New Jersey and New York

The first mid town tunnel linking New Jersey and New York City was completed 102 feet below the river surface after 18 months of work. One of the early workers entered the opening as the tube connects both states, with cars expected in about 20 years. Seven men have died on the $37.5 million project.

Del Rio ISD Gives Two-Day Tax Deadline Extension

Del Rio Independent School District sets a final two day window for paying delinquent 1934 school taxes to avoid penalties. Two days remain after July 3 moratorium, with only partial payments received to date and about $9,849 on the delinquent roll. Governor Allred refused clemency for John Trapper in a case from Texas. Trapper was sentenced to electrocution in Huntsville for the murder of J. W. Haygood, a deputy sheriff, and his wife slain with a throat slash.

Changes in Routing Roads Through Del Rio

The State Highway Department set temporary routing changes for Del Rio. Highway 30 now enters from the north via Devil's River highway and Main Street to Garfield and Las Vacas to the International Bridge, while Highway 85 enters from the south on Broadbent Avenue and Eighth Street to Gillis Street and Riverside then to Pig Pen's Crossing and the stockyard area near Highway 3. After the old crossing is rebuilt, 85 will revert along Barroum and Texas Streets to Gibbs Street. D. W. Dockery, division engineer, states the changes aim to divide traffic.
