County records show three new automobiles registered in Val Verde County on Monday by Del Rio residents. Registrants listed are R. M. Hamilton, Kirk Perry, and G. B. Baker.
Governor Allred launches a drive to halt horse race betting by seeking an injunction against information distributors. District Judge Wheeler grants a temporary injunction against Daily Racing Form Publishing, Texas News Service, AT and T, and Southwestern Bell to stop gathering or disseminating racing information into Texas. Hearing set for October 7. The governor says the move aims to cut off bookies by stopping information sources.
Mrs. Julia Camp was found dead and her husband Robert Camp seriously wounded Monday in Brackettville. The attack occurred at the Camp hamburger stand on Main Street between 9:30 and 10 a.m. Mrs. Camp's body was sent to San Antonio for burial.
Funeral services for 74 year old Mrs Julia Ann Dunn were conducted at the Doran Funeral Home with Rev L C Beasley officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery. Born August 7 1861 in Houston County she had lived in Del Rio thirty years. Survived by husband Gus Dunn two daughters Elia Goodman and Eva Davis and four sons Travis Horace Hiram and Oscar.
The first mid town tunnel linking New Jersey and New York City was completed 102 feet below the river surface after 18 months of work. One of the early workers entered the opening as the tube connects both states, with cars expected in about 20 years. Seven men have died on the $37.5 million project.
Early morning crash on a highway about three miles from Brackettville sent three Del Rio women Alfa Wallace Ralph Goodwin and Nora Sourwine to Post Hospital Brackettville with severe cuts and bruises. They reported a second car crowded them off the road causing the swerve and rollover.
Del Rio Independent School District sets a final two day window for paying delinquent 1934 school taxes to avoid penalties. Two days remain after July 3 moratorium, with only partial payments received to date and about $9,849 on the delinquent roll. A 10 percent penalty resumes Friday along with 6 percent interest and a collection fee.

The State Highway Department set temporary routing changes for Del Rio. Highway 30 now enters from the north via Devil's River highway and Main Street to Garfield and Las Vacas to the International Bridge, while Highway 85 enters from the south on Broadbent Avenue and Eighth Street to Gillis Street and Riverside then to Pig Pen's Crossing and the stockyard area near Highway 3. After the old crossing is rebuilt, 85 will revert along Barroum and Texas Streets to Gibbs Street. D. W. Dockery, division engineer, states the changes aim to divide traffic.

The Chamber of Commerce adopted a resolution asking Texas senators and district representatives to seek appropriations and provide buildings for Fort Clark at Brackettville. The group also considered extending the Mexican National Railways Line from San Carlos to Villa Acuna and the business impact on Del Rio.
Gainesville August 13 4 Arthur Nall a Cooke County farmer found a 23 year old cotton ticket from North Texas Compress Co. The tag showed he owned a bale stored there nearly 25 years ago. Storage charges exceed the bale value and he may pay or surrender the bale to the compress.
Democratic strategists privately say six New England states Maine Vermont New Hampshire Massachusetts Rhode Island and Connecticut would vote Republican if the presidential election were held tomorrow or soon after. They note a Rhode Island GOP surge after a Rhode Island election victory and suggest caution in drawing 1936 implications. The piece also recalls Jeffersonian parliamentary rules cited by John J. Washington report says H. C. Hopson, head of Associated Gas and Electric, rejected claims that he and associates earned 2.8 million dollars in depression years through stock dividends. Hopson described inquiries as unfair, refused to disclose his income for the last two years, and remained evasive about past earnings.
Del Rio Independent School District officials led by Superintendent Roy M. Andrews announced the start of classes on September 9. A budget plan for the new fiscal year, beginning September 1, will be reviewed at an open board meeting on August 20 in Andrews' office. the public is invited to attend.
