City council passed an ordinance regulating slaughtering establishments, requiring permits and health rules. Operators must be bonded and meat inspectors will check animals before slaughter, with bans on slaughter during restricted hours unless special permit issued. Paul Wievins named city inspector. gas line installations also regulated under earlier ordinance.
The Del Rio Building and Loan promotes savings with offices in the First National Bank building led by Pat Jarrat as secretary treasurer and Ben Poster as president. It operates under state law offering first mortgage loans on improved city property not exceeding 30 percent of value and emphasizes safe, non speculative dealings.
The Hollywood New reports Miss Veltmann, pupil at the Da Biiva dancing school in Holly Ena, refused both a teaching post at the Da Silva studio and a film contract. She directs the Kiddie Koop in Del Rio and returns to the fall season.
Five boys found dynamite caps near San Angelo with one 14-year-old boy, E H Parrow Jr, dying at the scene. Wilburn Olsen 7 was seriously injured with potential broken ribs, J D Olsen 12 and two 8-year-old twins less hurt. The caps were old and weathered, origin unknown, coroner to report.
The State Railroad Commission dismissed the application of R. C Bowen to operate a Del Rio to Alpine bus line. There are already 14 lines serving the route and permission to change schedules was granted for several existing lines, including Old Panthe Trail stages from San Antonio to Del Rio via Sonora, Painter Bus Lines from Del Rio to San Antonio via Uvalde, and from Uvalde to San Antonio via Sabinal and Hondo.
Partly cloudy tonight and Thursday with local showers in the extreme west. Del Rio vicinity sees a high around yesterday’s 98 and a low near 76. East coast may have isolated thunder showers tonight and Thursday.
Austin reports secretary of state Janet McCallum released a list of clemencies in the last days of Miriam A. Ferguson’s governorship. The document cites 155 people pardoned or paroled, including 35 murder or violent crime cases, 22 full pardons, and 10 incident-case defendants, with strong rhetoric on democratic accountability.
AUSTIN Aug. 13 Ferguson is the first to file a preliminary expense report for the run off primary. The document filed in the Secretary of State office shows total campaign expenses of 2001.87 dollars including 1158.00 spent in the first primary. Contributions totaled 1000.00 dollars.
A Chrysler sedan rammed a utility pole on Loop Road Tuesday night causing the pole to snap in two. The driver is due in justice court Wednesday. No injuries were reported. Other recent pole breaks include youths on San Felipe and a truck on South Main.
The Del Rio Plumbing Company posts a $1,000 cash bond to qualify as gas fitters under city ordinance. City hall officials explain the requirement for a cash bond while two other firms Texas Gas Utilities Company and F. B. Rutledge have posted bonds.
Jefferson Ore. Marion Looney was guiding a bull at home when he stumbled and sustained a broken little finger. The incident occurred during routine livestock work. He received first aid on site and sought medical attention.

Hollywood reports screen star Basquette attempted suicide to gain custody of her four year old daughter Lita Warner. Antidotes were given to save her life and the child was placed with relatives of Sam Warner, Lina's former husband, as she planned remarriage.
Judge W. D. Hopkins, a 40 year veteran of South Texas courts, is in Del Rio visiting his son W. W. B. Hopkins Jr., an immigration border patrolman. He serves as district judge in the Corpus Christi area, after previously guiding Nueces County as county judge. This marks his second Del Rio visit with family members accompanying him.
San Angelo reports the West Texas Special inaugurates passenger service on November 1 over the Alpine to Presidio link. Doss H. Berry will operate the first train as the road is completed for Santa Fe to receive by November 1. The event garners regional and international attention with West Texas Chamber of Commerce planning a large celebration and a August 30 meeting in San Angelo with national chamber officials.

In St Louis on August 1 a steel mill superintendent mortally stabbed his wife Rachel in front of their four year old stepdaughter after a party, then killed himself with the same knife. Police say the motive was her reported vow of continuing love for her first husband.
Madge Mitchell of Los Angeles, a beauty contestant and former screen actress, sues William N Fieischmann 57 of the Cincinnati yeast family for 100000 alleging breach after a pre matrimony trip to Honolulu. Pleischmann now resides in Beverly Hills California.
A promissory note suit was filed Wednesday morning by Mrs M E Smith of Mar against Theodore Rose et al in district court. The note for 1900 dated June 5 1928 secures a lot in North Heights addition purchased with the note. The property and note have changed hands several times and the estate of Dan Murrah along with other parties claim an interest in the lot.
Reports from Kansas City show sheep receipts at 4,000 with lambs weakening 15 to 25 cents while sheep prices held steady. Cattle receipts reached 5,000 with calves and cattle holdovers at 1,130. light-weight steers yearlings and western grassers stayed steady to strong. Vealers and stockers were steady to strong with top cattle sellers at 9.50 as 5,000 receipts remained fairly active with 10 to 15 cent gains.
Mr and Mrs Charlies Kern returned home in St Louis denying they were kidnaped. They refused to discuss their whereabouts, saying it was nobody's business. Earlier reports claimed they were taken from a train in Ohio as a 24 hour search continued.
The 26 month old daughter of Mr and Mrs R M Van Cleave died at a local hospital at 9 o clock Wednesday morning. Funeral plans were incomplete at noon but expected Thursday afternoon. The child had been ill only a few days. Van Cleave is a Southern Pacific section foreman at Lozier.
Fifty citizens expressed views on a municipal band tax in Del Rio. By Wednesday noon 28 opposed, 22 favored, and one blank ballot was received. A band member submitted 18 Yes ballots, each signed, while most responses arrived by mail.
James Allred, candidate for attorney general, denounces a statement attributed to R L Bobbitt. He calls the article untrue and unjust and says Bobbitt knows it. The piece appeared in Cenat of Texas newspapers and Allred plans a public response before its wider release.
Mrs. Louisa Ward aged 76 died at 11 o clock Wednesday morning in Del Rio. Former Comstock resident she had lived as a charity cases for two years with care from Church of Christ members. Her son, her only local relative, deserted her several years ago.
In St Louis Aug 13 Dale Jackson and Forest O Brine flew the monoplane Greater St Louis through a steady rain to set a new endurance record. The craft stayed aloft 534 hours and 411 minutes, surpassing the previous mark by one hour at 9 52 p m.
The Hunters celebrated at the field and in downtown St. Louis after surpassing a 421 hour target set by Jackson O Brine. Officials say the group aims for 1 000 hours in the air as their next milestone.
Preliminary engineering plans for widening the Rio Grande from Box Canyon near Fort to the river’s straightest course have been completed. The report will be reviewed by U S and local governments and, after approval, used as the basis for an agreement and required engineering actions.
A Del Rioan who fished with Murray hopes for Alfalfa Bill Murray in the Oklahoma gubernatorial race. W. W. Gaines of the Del Rio Evening News advertising staff returns Wednesday with notes that Murray leads the Democratic nomination 2-1.
