He said interests with Calles diverge and claimed he was hurried out with little time to gather clothes and money. In Lincoln on August 28 Harry K. Grainger and three others were critically injured in a refrigerator plant explosion at the Granger Brothers wholesale building, with six buried under debris.
A Dallas grand jury indicted George W. Redston a former Chicago crime investigator and mayoral bodyguard for the murder of A. B. Farrow liquor store proprietor on August 4.
California packers broaden buying area to five Western states as supply tightens in nearby counties. Northeastern California ships largely to San Francisco and Los Angeles, with contracts set months earlier. Oregon and Washington offer good to choice wool lambs at prices up to 850 dollars, with bay district shipments in view. Last week San Francisco Packers received 94 cars of lambs, signaling the heaviest receipts of the year.

Forecasters said a low barometer area over Texas moving eastward would end the heat wave, with deaths at seven for the three days of extreme heat. Del Rio Chamber of Commerce says Coast Guard Air Patrol Detachment may relocate from Fort Sam Houston to Del Rio bringing 10 personnel and three planes. Payroll about 24000 dollars. Detachment now at Dodd Field and would cut travel for border patrol. Chamber wired Coast Guard commandant in Washington Tuesday night.
Plans for a caravan along the Villa Acuna Allende Saltillo route were drawn up by the Villa Acuna and Del Rio chambers. The trip could begin in September after talks with Coahuila’s governor, with towns along the route urged to join and San Angelo and others later invited to participate.
Del Rio and vicinity enjoy generally fair conditions tonight and Thursday. Yesterday's high reached 104 degrees with a minimum of 74. Early morning readings show a low around 78.
USDA reports on August 1 show cattle ranges at 88 percent of normal, sheep 88, and goats 89 with good feed supplies for fall grazing. North Central and Northwest Texas near Oklahoma need rain. overall Texas ranges and sheep flesh prospects look favorable for fall and winter.
In Florida, Charles Andres, Townsend supporter, conceded the Democratic Senate nomination to the frontrunner as primary results showed strong leads for Senators Joseph T Robinson and William E Borah seeking renomination. The Childress station recorded July as the hottest month with 19 days above 100 degrees and a peak 114 degrees on July 20.
H Conger Jones was appointed by the County Commissioners to fill the unexpired term of the late W T Hope as Val Verde County surveyor. The term lasts until January 1, 1937. Hope died July 15 after 20 years in the office. Jones assumed duties immediately and his name will appear on the November ballot.
County Judge Clarence Herreford and the commissioners outline a tentative 38 cent county tax rate on the 100 dollar valuation, down from last year's 44 cent rate. State tax remains 62 cents making total 1.00 per 100, saving taxpayers about 6750 dollars if approved at August 27 hearing.
Ernest O. Thompson, chairman of the Texas Railroad Commission, arrives in Amarillo to seek renewal of bonds on his two hotels the Herring and the Amarillo. He asks the federal court to extend the bonds for 10 years at 4 percent, noting no principal or interest payments have been made for five years under the 77 B bankruptcy provision.
Mrs Clyde Box sister of R C Robertson of Del Rio died in San Angelo. Funeral services are planned for Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Box is survived by her husband three children and two brothers including her Del Rio brother and her father. Local relatives attend rites in Texas.
Ballots for the Democratic run-off on August 22 have been printed and received by County Clerk W. A. Hopkins. The six names span three races including agriculture and railroad commissioners, and a local contest between Geo. EF Love and John Qualia for Precinct No. One. Absentee voting closes August 19 after delays from a delayed canvass.
Directors of the Chamber of Commerce in regular session on Tuesday approved a visit to the Quemado Chamber of Commerce next Friday. They proposed that Del Rio business representatives travel to Quemado to meet Quemado chamber directors.
A sale of 100000 pounds of kid mohair at 70 cents a pound occurred Tuesday night in Houston. Frank Montague of Bandera announced the deal, with Ryder & Brown Company of Boston buying the mohair stored in a Houston warehouse. The price is among the highest in a decade, described by local goat men as a record sale in recent years.
Mrs J D Kelly sustained a broken arm in a Monday night car crash in Villa Acuna. After dinner she started home and was rear ended while entering her vehicle, throwing her to the ground.
Harper Rawlings of Kerrville announced the Texas Angora Goat Show to be held in Johnson City August 18 19 and 20 with 1500 in premiums for the three day event Also planned are a rodeo and dancing each night Advertisements promote the mohair theme and list routes from Fort Worth Dallas Cleburne Waco Austin Junction Kerrville San Antonio and Fredericksburg to Johnson City.
Funeral services for Robert Lee Hill 79 are planned for Thursday at 9 am from the family residence in Comstock. Interment will follow in Comstock Cemetery under Deran Funeral Home of Del Rio direction. He died Wednesday after a short illness. Born in Arkansas August 15 1857 he was a farmer before retirement. Survivors include wife Clemmin Hall and nine children Claudia Martin Margaret McAllen Joe Williams Blanche Martin Beth Hill Mildred Hill Martin Hill Edwin Hill and Robert Hill.
