Del Rio and Val Verde County chamber directors held a Tuesday session to discuss forming a Safety Council. Senate instructed its agriculture committee to report a general farm bill within a week after the next session.
Mrs Charles J Kleiner of Cisco Texas and her son Charles Jr died in an automobile crash near Tucson. Kleiner, an oil operator and ranchman, arrived by plane to learn his wife and son were dead. The governness was killed and three other Kleiner children were injured. doctors could not yet determine the extent of their injuries.
Charles Hunt of Los Angeles, 24, an automobile plant worker paralyzed by infantile polio, died in Carrie Tingley Hospital in Hot Springs New Mexico while using the iron lung. He had shown improvement after being placed in the respirator but died when his heart failed. doctors noted the device could not replace the heart. Hunt had survived a 121 mile race with death from El Paso and hoped to improve the machine before his death.
President Roosevelt appoints 49 year old Claude C McColloch of Portland as federal district judge for Oregon. Previously Democratic state chairman, he led the President's campaign in Oregon and is described by Labor as fairly lenient.
A game warden announces no open season for mourning and white winged doves in southern Val Verde Kinney and Maverick Counties due to conflicts with Federal rules. Ducks season remains November 27 to December 29 with a 12 bird bag limit in Val Verde. September 15 to October 31 applies in remaining areas. Legislation may harmonize state and federal dove regulations.
Mrs Sarah A Myers aged 93 and once present on the speakers platform when Lincoln delivered the Gettysburg Address in 1863 died yesterday in Moylan Pennsylvania.
La Verde County Commissioners redraw three of fourteen county precincts in a move effective 1938 that will not impact Del Rio city voting. City polling remains at two locations, north of San Felipe Creek at City Hall and south at Diaz Hall in San Felipe. The county redraw aims to equalize districts where voter totals exceed 350, with San Felipe now accounting for fewer voters than before.
