Oklahoma City Aug 6 The oil industry faced a near total shutdown with daily production about 500 900 barrels as Alfalfa Bill Murray the governor ordered wells to close amid a glut and crude at about 1 a barrel Soldiers patrolled Oklahoma City and Seminole to enforce the edict no objections had been filed and markets watched prices stabilize amid the halt
The illness of Rev. EB Gates in San Antonio may force changes to the Christoval Baylot encampment program opening Friday. If he cannot attend, Rev. Dunlap says a replacement will be substituted. Special Correspondent MARFA Aug. 6 J C Smith a negro was convicted of assault with intent to murder in the pushing of a brakeman from the top of a moving train. He received a one year term in the penitentiary. The victim was J L Newton of the Texas and New Orleans Railroad.
A fleet of 13 government airplanes landed at the local Eagle Pass field at noon after trips from San Antonio. The arrival marks a routine military air operation conducted through the city.
SHREVEPORT August 6 six men including A J Childers J F Hays and F W Childers are held in jail on warrants over the murder of Ida Erickson a roadside restaurant owner. Authorities say the death came from a brain hemorrhage caused by a blow from officers during a raid for slot machines. F W Childers admits slapping the woman.
London and dominions refuse to accept covenant amendments aligning with the Kellogg Pact without general armament reduction. France backs disarmament talks and universal ratification of the League General Act of Arbitration. only fifteen nations have ratified it.
In Elko Nevada authorities halted a freight train to search for a robber. Police uncovered about 200 hoboes concealed inside the cars. They allowed the train to proceed with the passengers continuing their journeys.
Friends of Jeff Meers, jailed in Chihuahua City Mexico and condemned to death for killing a Juarez bartender, hope for clemency after Governor Ortiz’s Texas visit. Meers thinks the slain bartender killed his father. He is reported as cousin of Leshe Miers of San Angelo.
A crew of 20 or more works on installing a high voltage line to cross the Rio Grande to the Vila Acuna plant. Central Power and Light sends its seasoned staff to Del Rio to accelerate the feed for XER, with a tentative September 16 opening and a 10 year power contract rumored. Equipment shipments arrive daily for the world’s largest broadcasting facility.
The Del Rio Mexicans begin the annual trek to Texas cotton fields with pickups to Coleman Brady Colorado City Winters and adjoining counties. Pickets will be paid forty cents per hundred this year, well below past rates. Families travel together and spend Sundays in quiet gatherings, sharing tortillas and drinks after long days in the sun.
Wilburn Cowen and Max Bennet, about 18, were arrested in Abilene Monday night for stealing a small roadster. Sheriff Whistler and Deputy Stemmett nabbed them on Main Street Wednesday afternoon. They await transfer to Abilene with Sheriff West and Deputy Cecil Vick Thursday.
City crews under PF J Schmidt in North Heights extended oiling to unpaved streets from West 10th to the Municipal airport and West 9th to Avenue B. Additional unpaved streets will be oiled within 30 days to reduce powder dust clouds from traffic.
In Haynesville Alabama a 16 year old African American boy accused of attempting to attack an 11 year old white girl was lynched by a citizen posse near Sandy Ridge. The sheriff said the suspect was shot 32 times.
