Edinburg August 5 Miss Kay Teer daughter of Deputy Sheriff Ray Teer was deputized by Sheriff R T Daniel in Hidalgo County for a temporary assignment in the sheriff s office She recently earned her degree in June from Mary Hardin Baylor College and attended there last year.
Hardin who lost in the Railroad Commission race backs Frank S. Morris in the run off against incumbent Ernest O. Thompson. Roy Miller, Corpus Christi chairman of the Democratic National Campaign Committee for Texas, said a drive would seek to beat the 1952 Roosevelt Garner Texas majority. Secretary of War George H. Dern was described as a very ill man with a precarious condition at Walter Reed Hospital in Washington. He had been confined for several weeks after influenza last spring and has aggravated high blood pressure.

The Vatican reportedly asked Gallagher to curb Coughlin’s political talks and avoid public remarks. Gallagher said he acted before leaving the United States and did not confirm Vatican intervention.
Officials report no definite plans for an adult education program in Del Rio for 1936-37. In 1934-35 San Felipe ran a ten month program. 1935-36 saw a start, but it was discontinued and later reopened without full-year continuity. Aubrey Williams, head of the National Adult Educational Program, says funds will be available next year and localities are preparing proposals for 1936-37.
Department of Public Safety teams concluded a two day car safety test in Del Rio inspecting 1 714 vehicles with 372 defective. Defective lights and brakes topped the issues with 279 cars repaired. Captain G P Nulty said the city police will take over the work but the safety lane may return.
McAllen, Aug 5. M D. K. Martin of the State Highway Commission told civic officials that Texas will designate or build a paved highway to meet each Texas Mexico border crossing. He cited cooperation with the Mexican government and noted the Reynosa Monterrey pike will be completed as a Federal project linking McAllen to the northern Mexican industrial city. The route would connect King Monterrey with Matamoros and Mazatlan, with about 125 miles in Nuevo Leon and 25 miles in Tamaulipas. Tamaulipas work has lagged four years, leaving rough travel during rain.
In Oklahoma City on August 5 a man named Dudley proposes four backyard cots and a pistol to ward off imagined intruders. He vows to fire at the first barking dot at 3 a.m., a claim that drew immediate criticism from neighbors.

Four electric counterfeit coin detecting machines, claimed infallible, have been installed at the Bank of New South Wales head office in Sydney. The units, shaped like cream separators, accept coins in a bowl, feed them into a vertical sifter, and analyze them by electricity. Good coins are counted, bad coins rejected, in about one tenth of a second.
