New York stock trading opened with broad buying as traders chased a vigorous rally. Prices moved to net advances of $1 to $4 or more with Telephone and Telegraph crossing par before slipping back. Fe and others followed as the back market boomed.
A trash fire on the west bank of Felipe Creek near the old iron bridge threatened nearby houses. Del Rio fire department battled the blaze for 36 hours and responded to a second fire at the Jim Kite ranch south of town, where flames consumed a field of grass.
In Houston on August 4 a cross action involving Southern Pacific Lines seeking 10 million damages was filed in District 11. Del Stone Company of Texas had been sued by Marland Estate Inc of Ponca City Oklahoma in a foreclosure suit and the cross asks 5 million exemplary and 20 million actual damages alleging a conspiracy by Texas and New Orleans Rail to cause loss of a stone quarry held under lease. The stone company states it was in possession by a trustee.

Terre Haute Ind Aug 4 state troops lifted the siege of the Dixie Bee coal mine. Union pickets released non union prisoners after two days as 20 National Guardsmen moved in. Sixty five miners were freed and four wounded miners received hospital care after a rifle clash in which one picket was killed and four injured.
T K Irwin a Dallas attorney shot a armed robber seven miles west of Nacogdoches after two masked men flagged his car with flash lights and one pistol. Irwin wounded the nearest man who fell while the other fled into the brush. Police found no trace of the wounded suspect amid rain washed tracks.
New York Aug 4. Robert P. Lamont, recently Hoover era commerce secretary, will be elected president of the American Iron and Steel Institute on August 18. Charles N. Schwab, the institute’s chief executive, announced the appointment. Rey Dikeman Chapin of Detroit has been named to Lamont’s cabinet post.
John L. Green and Ernest Johnson, both Black men, sentenced for the slaying of Devine dairyman Frank Kempf, are set for execution by electric chair at the Texas State Penitentiary in Huntsville early Friday morning.
The University of Texas Bureau of Business Research reports 46,274 workers across 827 establishments on July 15, down 2.7 percent from June. Year over year, employment was 17.3 percent lower, though July showed stronger results than any prior July. Saw mills gained notably while cotton oil mills surged. El Paso Galveston Houston and Wichita Falls added payrolls. Three industries including automobile and body works, cotton oil mills, and cotton textile mills posted year ago gains. GM declares quarterly dividend of 25 cents a share.
War Department scheduled a military funeral for Eric Carlson of Oakland California who died from wounds in last week's bonus army riot with police. Another marcher William Hushka, killed earlier in the eviction, was buried in Arlington National Cemetery.
Robert Newmeyer of Tuttletown reports finding a solid chunk of gold valued at 1300 dollars in an abandoned mine shaft on Jackass Hill once associated with Mark Twain. The discovery was noted this week in Sonora California.
Four convicts were killed and three wounded after a daring break from the Tucker Prison Farm stockade. Convicts killed a trusty, then fled on horses after seizing rifles and ammo. Officers later surrounded the fugitives in a wooded area about 25 miles from the camp.
The Interstate Commerce Commission ruled that carload rates from Texas and Oklahoma to New Mexico on grain and grain products are unreasonable. Francis Nash, 32, a bachelor, was sentenced in Ludington to life imprisonment with solitary confinement and hard labor for the murder of 17 year old Evelyn Sanford. The body was found buried near Nash's residence after she was reported missing Saturday.

Francis Hubert a 47 year old Hillsboro Texas man said he was confined three days in a freight car after troops routed the bonus army in Washington He claimed a cavalry horse trod on him and that he was shoved into the car with the door slammed He said he had no food or water during the confinement and was later moved to jail for treatment of injuries.
Robbers entered the Maiden Bank and carted off a total of $19,000. The bank safe was dragged into the street and loaded onto a truck. The haul included $4,090 in cash and $15,000 in securities.
Eagle Pass reports work has begun to widen and gravel a 30 mile stretch from Piedras Negras to Don Martin Lake and Sabinas Mexico. The all weather road will be paved with asphalt after settling and extended to Saltillo, 210 miles southwest. Saltillo is noted as a typically Mexican city.

Three young Mexican brothers Melestino Ezekial and Manuel Tuenas are held without bond in Eagle Pass on robbery and assault to murder charges after beating Federico Hernandez 30 a sheep herder at Indio Ranch with a rock. They were captured in Piedras Negras and face September trial. Hernandez says the attackers are sons of his friend Jesus Tuenas and that he was robbed of 50 dollars and left for dead.
