Washington reports the Government Weather Bureau records extreme drought and heat across the Midwest threatening crops. Officials compile damage estimates near half a billion dollars as August is seen as another intensely hot month.
Suffering from a brutal heat wave grips Chicago and the Midwest. Temperatures soar above normal with prostrations reported and millions of dollars in crop damage. Forecasters warn August may bring even higher temperatures than July.
A former El Paso constable, convicted of murder, arrives claiming clemency despite records. Reports say the State Pardon Board issued an adverse finding in March and the Mexican government and U.S. district protest against any pardon gesture.
A brush fire in Coahuila about Tp miles southwest of Villa Acuna burned a large area of brush and timber. The blaze, seen from Acuna garrison and along the San Diego river, raged for days but greatly diminished by Sunday night.
Reno reports Mrs. Marshall Field filed for divorce on cruelty and desertion grounds. Evelyn Marshall, wife of the mail order magnate, seeks a $1,000,000 settlement as a precedent filing in the case. District authorities indicate the merchant will not contest the petition.
The county court opened Monday with only routine matters. several attorneys were unavailable and no cases were tried. An appeal on questions of the case in the western part did not materialize. A justice court jury recently granted a forcible detainer suit in the matter of Mrs J R Middlebrook versus counsel.
The Sheep and Goat Raisers Association of Texas adopted a resolution in favor of T. A. Kincaid endorsing his push to remove from a tariff bill a provision allowing free or duty entry of Mexican livestock after temporary grazing or border crossing. The decision followed a recent broadside letter from Hudspeth and press coverage of the dispute.
Two earthquakes were logged by Fordham University at dawn, described as violent by observers. The weismnograph recorded hooks indicating strong seismic activity, with comparisons noting one event as more violent than another.

Peter Ratner about 85 father of Mrs. M Stool of this city died at his Chicago home Friday after about a year of invalidism. Mr Ratner and Mrs Stool and children Wille Joseph and Miss Goldie were enroute to Del Rio from New York City when they learned of his death.
A San Felipe youth fined recently for a similar offense faced reckless driving charges. The court ordered a 30 day car ban and noted the boy may ride only if another person pays his fine, as police observed.
In Austin women leaders accuse Ma Ferguson of diminishing women's political standing linking her to men's ambition. They oppose Ferguson's influence, arguing it mocks women's suffrage gains and damages credibility for female fitness in public office. They deny Miriam Ferguson contributed to the suffrage cause and condemn her candidacy as a political tool.
In Reykjavik Iceland on August 4 German aviators Oscar Weller and Walfi Hirth halted their Berlin to United States sea flight after reaching Iceland. They decided to abandon the proposed voyage.
Livestock receipts totaled 16 008 sheep and 12 000 cattle with calves 3006 and 219 holdovers. Lambs rose to 15 cents higher, sheep steady, better lam bs brought 8 to 8 50. Killing class bids were weak to lower and bulls gained about 25 cents while weighty calves and stockers moved slowly.

Ambulance crews only reported one serious crash near Kennedy's dairy on a Saturday. A big sedan with a Kinney County plate overturned and was righted so the owner sped off. Witnesses said the fatality claim and police involvement were exaggerated and unsettled on the streets.
Report notes thefts of belting and other items at a dock east of the city where workers re ice refrigerator cars. The site includes a hobo jungle and workers exchange their own shoes for company issued footwear, but no burglar was identified as the thief.
Patten charges that state employees aided Pat Neff and that literature supporting Neff’s action was distributed by official state staff. He claims placards were attached to state vehicles and that workers engaged in political activity on official trips.
