Hon. Stanford Payne, representative of the 87th district, reports catching a 20 pound kingfish during a vacation at Corpus Christi. He sends Del Rio friends a note stating the catch was a real fish and not political.
Jas. C. Netts manager of the Del Rio Chamber of Commerce is eligible for a diploma from the Chamber of Commerce School in Dallas. The diploma will be presented at the Texas Chamber of Commerce Managers Association mid year meeting in Dallas on October 10 after Netts attended three full sessions. Sam H. Walk, president of the Del Rio Chamber, received notice of Netts eligibility from HH. W. Stanley, director of the Trade Extension Division of the Dallas Chamber.
Spofford water supply secured as Joe York contracts with the Southern Pacific Railroad to furnish water from a tank seven miles away at Las Moras Creek. The railroad laid larger mains and installed new pumps to serve York's store, residence, and individual residents.
The coast guard said the schooner Seagull, missing since Friday’s hurricane, arrived safely in Tampa. A search continues for the Ketchem and its four crew members, which departed St. Petersburg on a Gulf trip and has not reported since the storm.
Aubrey Williams, deputy administrator of the WPA adult education program, announced in Washington that the program would be continued next year.
Coleman County voters ordered a ban on beer sales with a countywide majority around 175. The city of Coleman voted in favor of remaining wet by about 248.
Austin officials faced ballot timing issues as the August 22 Democratic run off neared. State party rules delayed official ballot printing until August 8 while some counties began printing from unofficial results. Absentee voting started locally on August 2 but in Del Rio no ballots were cast as printing lagged. Two state offices were contested: agriculture and railroad commissioners. Locally only one race for county commissioner in Precinct 1.

Brackettville progress continues with rapid construction of small houses. Since January at least 15 homes completed, including residences for Serge Utter Frank Zinsmeister local garageman and Mrs Minnie Ballantyne as the newest additions to the growing section.
District Attorney Julian LaCrosse was elected permanent chairman of the Democratic county convention held Saturday evening in the District Court room. Rev. H. Conger Jones was elected permanent secretary and delegates were chosen to attend the state convention. The program featured T. C. Hickman delivering a keynote praising the Roosevelt administration and economic recovery, with strong remarks on wool prices and regional sheep and goat industries.
East St. Louis reports Night Chief Sam Strautz said John Hamilton orally admitted shooting and killing his wife Wilma and Thomas Grissom on Sunday.

Aug 3 A motion for a new trial in the case of Ulen Construction Company against the City of Del Rio was overruled by Federal Judge R J McMillan. The firm had been awarded 6669.14 damages on May 30 and sought profits from a canceled water works project after the city granted the contract to another group.
Texas Fire Insurance Commission records show no fire losses for this month, per CN to J. Sehmidt. Chief Sehmidt notes this marks two consecutive months with zero losses, adding that losses tend to be lower in the summer than in winter.
Gov. Ben C. Ross placed Clearwater County under martial law after a lumber man’s strike in Ori fino. Ten men were arrested in the county seat in connection with the shooting of four lumber mill pickets and beating five mill workers.
Hongkong reports said central government troops defeated Kwangsi forces after a seven hour battle. The clash occurred as government forces pressed operations in the region amid ongoing hostilities and Chinese reports claimed a decisive victory for the central authorities.
