Harry J. Leahy was executed in the Huntsville penitentiary for the murder of Dr. J. A. Ramsey. The condemned man died in the electric chair at 12:54 after three years of legal battles and appeals.
W. W. Collier of San Antonio, now a City National Bank executive, recalls his Texas ranger days at a Del Rio sheep and goat raisers convention. He recounts a 135 mile late night cattle theft chase with a fellow ranger, capturing three men and a dramatic encounter with a local girl defending one suspect.
Cowboys level the three game set with a 12 to 9 victory over San Angelo. Lind pitched a complete game with six strikeouts for the Cowboys, while San Angelo’s Rawlins and Lee shared pitching duties. Mecugin of the Cowboys hit two home runs as both teams combined for a free hitting contest and six Cowboy errors contrasted with six by San Angelo.
The deciding game between Del Rio Cowboys and San Angelo is set for this afternoon at Cowboy Park. Henning starts for Del Rio, Sikes for San Angelo. Sibley may pitch in relief if Henning struggles. Home runs highlighted yesterday's play, but are not expected today.

Rio officers search for an unknown assailant after a shot fired at a party from San Angelo near Villa Acuña left Willian Bennett 22 of Mercia Texas wounded in the right leg. Bennett and three friends were traveling from Villa Acuña to San Angelo when three men in a truck opened fire. Bennett, brother of Shorty Bennett of the Eagle Distreutine Company, received care from Dr H B Ross and may require an X ray before removal of the bullet.
Thieves forced entry through a window at the Western Union office Thursday night and carried off a 500 pound safe. Police think the safe was wheeled onto a truck after being fitted through the window. The safe’s contents were not disclosed.
The fourth annual Southwest Texas Council Boy Scouts summer camp begins August 7 at 9 oclock for a 19 day program in ten counties. W. A. Brown chairs the camp with attractions including bead work, crafts, and stories by Chief White Boy Lehman. Scouts are urged to register, bring bed rolls, and expect a competitive camp with the Brown trophy and troop location drawings.
T A Kincaid of Ozona was reelected president of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association for the coming year Brady was selected as the 1930 convention site in Brady's decisive closing session Judges Roger Gillis of Del Rio and W A Brown of Rocksprings were named first and second vice presidents Three new executive board members were named A D Brown James Peril and G C Bryson The association adjourned after adopting a new constitution and revealing that charges against State Land Commissioner J Z Robison were unfounded
The largest well in Cray County and the Texas Panhandle since early Borger Field history flowed 1000 barrels in the first hour and 6000 by 6 a.m. today. It is Palmer number four from Philips Petroleum.
Drisdale pays 3700 for a ram at the fourteenth annual Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers Association sale, the highest price fetched by a Texas breeder. T. Drisdale Ranches near Juno showcased many fine animals, underscoring rising quality in Texas sheep.
Roy Turner and Muss Mides Edwards were united in marriage on Saturday July 25 in Reno Nevada. Mrs Edwards is the daughter of Mr and Mrs W I Edwards of this city and has worked as a clerk at the local J C Penney store for three years. The groom, formerly with the Southern Pacific railroad, now works in construction in Lovelock Nevada. They plan to live in Lovelock. Mrs Jesse Dean Denson and her young son are visiting her mother Mrs W E Cook today.
The forecast says generally fair skies for Del Rio and surrounding areas tonight and Saturday. In West Texas expect mostly fair conditions with cloudiness and a chance of local showers in the Panhandle tonight.
