A Southern Pacific derailment at Lakebridge California injures seventy seven Pullman passengers. Seven coaches, including five Pullmans, left the tracks causing the incident. Details remain scarce as reports come in from the scene around 1 PM local time.
Governor Moody urged Mayor Chambers to block a Communist demonstration before the Mexican consulate in San Antonio. He proposed changing the parade route to avoid the consulate while noting the unemployment march is tied to city bond financing and local approval. Moody declined sending Rangers, expressing confidence in city authorities.
In a Saturday election there were 51 votes all for incumbents on the local school trustees board. Sam Walk stated as board president, with Dr George W. Cox and PF W H Wehner reelected. Other members include Judge W F Littleton HC Wilke L Rustspd and Dutch Wardlaw. The board plans 185000 dollars for expansion of school facilities. In San Felipe trustees election about 45 votes were cast. Pablo Flores and Pedro Rodaguce, term expirations, were reelected. New candidates added were B Apcirad and Pedro B Barrera. Victor Vasquez Jr. failed to win reelection and Adolfo Maldonado moved out of the district before the election.

Two workmen lost their lives when 5900 pounds of mine powder exploded inside a hydraulic press building at King Powder Company in Kings Mills near Lebanon Ohio. Property damage is estimated at 10900 dollars. cause remains undetermined.
The Mexican government plans to cancel issued tourist cards on April 15. Immigration Inspector Martin De Leon said the immigration service will accept license cards issued by qualified chambers of commerce. Del Rio San Felipe and Villa Acuna chambers are not on the approved list.

Three women were injured when a Studebaker Commander collided with another car 40 miles north of Del Rio on the Sonora road while relatives were en route to the funeral of J. Sellers Sr. The crash followed a tire blowout, leaving Mrs May Petty of Abilene and Miss Irene Pranks of Hico with injuries and a fractured shoulder blade for Mrs Blanche Grundy of Abilene.
Franca T. Whitehead, ranchman, announces candidacy for county commissioner from Precinct No 2 Vinegarone. He is son of Mr and Mrs Waiter Whitehead of Del Rio, a prominent ranching family. Voters are urged to support him as the logical choice, promising to devote time to the office if elected.

In Oklahoma City’s South City oil field a new No 1 Precure well from Indian Territory Illuminating Oil and Gas Co. spouted today near the Mary Sudik No 1. Experts expect it to become a major gas gush similar to the Mary Sudik, which was tamed after 11 days of uncontrolled flow. The Mary Sudik was shut in last night after repeated attempts to gate the geyser failed due to immense pressure and a sand blast.
Twelve men escaped Harris County jail in Houston by sawing window bars and sliding down a seven story fire hose. They overpowered night jailer W A McClinton and bound him to bars. one guard stood watch as others fled. Two inmates stayed behind to free McClinton after the others escaped.

More than a quarter million pounds of mohair were sent to Boston for sale by the Southwest Texas Wool and Mohair Co-Operative Marketing Corporation. Headquarters are in Del Rio with offices at 631 Main Street under Judge Roger Gillis. One shipment totaled 162000 pounds and the other 70000 pounds, with additional wool expected to move to Draper and Company.
A three way wreck was narrowly avoided at the post office Sunday afternoon. A Buick driven by Sheriff ML Whistler was struck by a Ford sedan while departing the curb at the west end of the federal building. Only slight damage occurred. A speeding motorist behind the Ford braked hard and slid about ten feet to avoid collision.
Fred Zuehl earned solo flight time as the newest Del Rio Aviation Club member. Club members said Monday he has logged six and a half hours in the air with Jim Alexander serving as the club pilot.

Pampa Texas April 7 Beulah Alfred temperance crusader freed after charges of illegal liquor transport were dismissed on district attorney Clifford Braly recommendation. She had been jailed two weeks for flaunting a liquor bottle on Manin Street as an example of alleged wire conditions. Braly offered no definite reason for dropping charges but said her spirit would keep up the prohibition fight in West Texas.
A Breckettville Negro paid 12 dollars 70 cents in fine and costs Monday after being arrested Sunday afternoon charged with disturbing the peace. The visitor had been to Villa Acuna and returned. The offense occurred at Everybodys Cafe.
A French Canadian claiming shell shock from World War I and service as an ordinary seaman was detained by police and immigration authorities after a noisy encounter with a waiter. He was released with a 200 pound bag of clothing and personal items and said he planned to seek work on the West Coast aboard a ship. He described New England birth and wartime service with the Fourth Royal Canadian Engineers.
