Springfield Ul Sept 2 Oral arguments will be heard October 5 before Circuit Judge Charles G Briewle on injunction suits filed by four oil distributors challenging the gas tax plan. The question is whether the state fund is legal and whether the distributors may reclaim money paid by motor vehicle owners. The suits seek to secure from amounts collected since July 1. The cases follow the last special session action approving funds to counties and state authorities, though payment has been disputed by several counties and the United States district court.

Katherine Leonard, 27, of Oakland, was found on Burlington tracks in Quetland this morning. Police say she jumped in front of a train after returning from mail duties and had been despondent since her mother's death in an automobile accident last year.

In Lorain Ohio on Sept 27 Betty Haywood 22 was wounded in the head by gunfire from three liquor squad officers Frank Klady Louis Cicco and Walter Knitter after her father Richard Haywood failed to halt his car. The three officers were bound over to a grand jury on charges of intent to wound with 1500 bond. Sheriff Mathews said Klady had authority to be at the scene and would be suspended pending investigation.

A Dodge Hupmobile carrying Jack Levick 35 of Chicago and two companions was hit by an eastbound train at Fourth street crossing of the North Western. Levick died within an hour. Schowenberg and Howerton survived injuries. sun glare and failure to see signals were cited.
